Because that's how the entire economy is structured, you YOURSELF wouldn't have total ownership in the first place. You would hire people so the business can grow, division of labor can enhance productivity, and profits per worker can grow or at least be sustained. Also because some jobs simply cannot be accomplished by one man alone. You can't run a full mine yourself. You can't run a whole factory yourself. For a more modern example, you can't produce complex modern software with just one developer. To succeed at all in these endeavors, you'll have to work together with others. Socialism simply dictates how ownership of the collective operation is handled. It also leaves the workers free to quit and give up their share to those remaining. They'd only retain their share so long as they're there and contributing to the operation's success.
