Management are like “bam, your team has three extra people for… maybe two months? Starting tomorrow!” And I’m just sat there like “that is literally just enough time for the productivity loss for team changes to just start to wear off before changing again, and also now we’re have eight engineers plus five other stake holders which blows the 7+/-2 rule waay out of the water”.
Makes it impossible to get enough collaboration time in to really form bonds and suddenly everything is impersonal. Plus that means you effectively have two sub teams going on at any given moment.
Plus, at teams of this size the group dynamic begins to change - it’s impossible to get a real core dynamic going on and it’s juuust big enough that it’s impossible to run everything in your head but not big enough that the additional process you need is at all efficient.
Plus it really makes refinements and retros that much more impersonal as it severely limits the amount of agency a single developer can have.
