Montanus, a priest, and Maxima, his wife, lived during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. When ordered to renounce their faith, they refused. Maxima bravely declared, "We worship the true God, Creator of heaven and earth." Enraged, the governor had them tortured. They endured beatings, scrapings with iron claws, and burning with torches, yet their faith remained unshaken. Finally, they were drowned at Singidunum (Belgrade) for their unwavering devotion.
