KNIPPELSBRO BRIDGE TOWER, 1937, Copenhagen, Denmark :
This bridge is a bascule bridge that spans the Inner Harbour of Copenhagen, connecting Bersgade on Slotsholmen (the Zealand side) to Torvegade in the Christianshavn district.

Architect: Kaj Gottlob
The most iconic features of the 1937 bridge are its two copper-clad bridge towers, which were originally built to house the bridge's control rooms as well as sleeping quarters for the operators who managed the bridge openings around the clock.

Over time, as harbour traffic declined, only the city-side tower remained in active use, while the Christianshavn-side (south) tower was left unused for many years.
Despite their functional purpose, the towers stand out as elegant examples of early 20th-century industrial design, combining utility with strong architectural character.
After a long campaign and extensive restoration, the south tower has recently been reopened as a cultural attraction.
