Why was Asperger's removed as a diagnosis and everyone combined into the single autism spectrum diagnosis?
Once upon a time it was all one diagnosis before. Hans Asperger wanted to make the distinction between high functioning and low functioning so that he could spare some of his patients from the Nazi eugenics program. He knew how important high functioning autistics could be to society. He didn't care that the rest were people and had rights also.
He collaborated with the Nazis and sent his own patients off to the concentration camps. The decision of who to spare was at his discretion. This was the birth of splitting it into autism and Asperger's as separate disorders.
6 years ago in 2019 we finally dropped that ugliness and removed Asperger's from the ICD. It has been less than a decade for us without being formally categorized by who should be sent to the concentration camps and who should be spared. We made it a mere 6 years free of the shadow of the concentration camps before they decided to start another involuntary registry of autistic people.
I'm a real person. There is much more to me than a government agency deciding my worthiness to survive a eugenics program. I wanted more than 6 years of being treated like a human being automatically deserving of life and respect like anyone else. Someone with an unique personality you had to spend time around to get to know. Fuck RFK and his supporters for dragging us back into that shit after just 6 years. Fuck RFK and his supporters for flattening the entire sum of my life into just a disorder again.
