GA nostriches, I feel like I don’t want to get drawn into the DEI madness that appears to be descending onto the UK (specifically the university sector that I’m part of), but I’m honestly interested to learn more. I don’t want to set out to prove my thesis that is it bad for business, I just want to explore what it means from perspectives informed by theory (I have 3 in mind), rather than government decree (fiat).
Going the academic article route could work, but will take longer and I can’t think of a journal that will be interested, so going a different route. Rigorously conducted thought experiment, removing preconceptions (as much as possible, I’m human), attempting to provide both sides of the argument so hopefully, in a free market of ideas, readers can choose whether DEI works for their business and also how to implement it.
Yes, I’m a pretty old white guy, you may think I’m wining for being hard done to, but I want to understand the implications of this shift. After watching a video made as an assessment point to warn young people against crypto scams, I’m feeling a life away from the ivory tower in the way forward. I like research but they don’t give me time, I like teaching and supervising students, but they have cut time from the students, in favour of their “Athena swan” and EDI steering committee. Who suffers, the students.
May have found a new piece to write while I sit at my daughters’ swimming and dance class. Might have already started at 2.8k words into it!!!!
