They have to adapt to the group, but in the process they become so detached from the rest of the world, because I guess they also learn to expect others to have the same references.
This is why we shouldn't normalise 4chan slangs, because we shouldn't let people fall into this cycle. We should encourage each other to let go of that culture. We shouldn't shame and bannish others for it though, it's actually sometimes hard to resist subconsciously adopting the language of those around us. (Maybe I'm coping because I caught myself using "based" a few days ago)
This is not the biggest problem ever, but if we have the choice to use the slangs or to not use them, we may as well choose not to
