a thing about writing about the terminal is that beta readers keep asking extremely reasonable questions ("you said bash by default stores 500 lines of history, what's the default in zsh?") where as far as I can tell the answer is way too complicated to put in a zine ("well in the source code it says 30 lines, on Mac right now it's set to 2000 in /etc/zshrc by default, but on Ubuntu looks like it's 30, you can check with $HISTSIZE but I think you also need $HISTFILESIZE...")
