If something is just meh, whatever it is, it does not play a role of a religious/spiritual experience *for you*. There are multiple ways of approaching God / Tao / The Ground of Being / whateveryoucallit, science being one of them. But if you approach Him close enough, the technical reason stops being sufficient and you'll spontaneously start doing weird shit like falling down on your knees, awestruck.
The established religions are simply traditional ways of responding to the divine that used to work and still work for a large (but diminishing) number of people. By "work", I mean "elicit a feeling of conformance to God".
