BlackRock currently holds 51% of the Bitcoin ETF market, with over $54 billion in assets under management. However, this dominance does not equate to a 51% attack sense of bitcoin.
A 51% attack happens on the blockchain network when a single actor controls the majority of computational power, allowing them to manipulate transactions and the network itself. BlackRock, by holding 51% of bitcoin ETF assets, does not control the blockchain or alter transactions, as it only manages financial products based on bitcoin, not the network infrastructure itself.
The main risk of this concentration is financial and market-based, not technical. BlackRock could influence liquidity, prices, and market perception of ETFs, but it cannot perform double-spend attacks or censor transactions on the bitcoin network.
