and you know what was BRILLIANT? They used this thing called Tomnod to get open source eyes to basically go through satellite images then highlight or tag things people would spot. IDK if you know Tomnod, but it was extensively used to help search for MH370 by the public.
After about two months though, Tomnod suddendly changed the location data on the images so that tracking the images were harder for the public, but they could still know where things were seen floating etc.
Some people who helped OSINT on Tomnod explicitly remember seeing debris in South China Sea, in some cases outlines of the plane parts like wings and tail fragments.
