I use my self-hosted services daily and am gleeful when I'm accessing my files remotely with Tor. My data is safe from attack yet I can use it to anonymously pay and be paid, can communicate with the world over relay AND communicate in the most private manner if need be. The user interface is intuitive and there's no automatic updates.
