Growing up in Nigeria in the 70s, I knew a lot of kids called Osondu.
Osondu is Igbo for "Run for your life" and is the name given to babies born while their mums were fleeing Nigerian bombs during the Biafra war.
We grew up in the shadow of war - that war and WWII. I remember being terrified that I wouldn't get past my prime without being called upon to fight.
I'm 52. I'm probably safe. But now I'm terrified that my 10 year old son won't make it.
It's a dangerous world.
