More on 1. Trust is your currency. Build it by showing you put faith in people. You may have to spend it later (asking for emergency overtime volunteers for example) but you can build it back up.
Showing you care means showing an interest in them, giving them a break but also holding them to account - that's not the same as making them toe a line BTW. Help them be the best version of themselves.
People will give a crap about the work more if you give a crap about them.
