There is this idea that is in an observable sense true; most humans will fall in line with authority, even when doing so requires them to violate their own stated values. This theory is presented in many different ways and the numbers vary slightly, but the idea goes that only ~10-20% of the human population will say no to authority.
Now I’d agree that is observably correct, I disagree that this is inherent to humanity. This is a trauma response. When people are raised in loving, non-authoritarian homes, when they don’t suffer abuse and trauma, they are dramatically more psychologically capable of saying no to authority.
It’s not that ~90-80% of humanity are pushovers, it’s that ~90-80% of humanity is traumatized.
