There's beneficial delusional thinking and harmful delusional thinking.
The beneficial kind isn't truly delusional, as it doesn't contradict reality. You might delusionally "believe" that you're smart and start behaving like an intelligent person — learning, communicating, and creating. While you may not be smart yet, you will become so as you engage your mind.
Harmful delusional thinking, on the other hand, is both delusional and truly harmful. It occurs when you believe you deserve what you want and that it will come to you by itself, or that higher forces will take care of you and guide you. If it contradicts actual reality, the universe will punish you for such illusions.
