Earlier this week, billionaire venture capitalist Tim Draper sat down with CoinDesk for a wide-ranging interview. The conversation covered several topics, but it centered on Bitcoin. And Draper made the following two predictions:
Bitcoin will hit $250K by the end of this year.
Bitcoin will replace the US dollar as the world’s dominant currency within the next ten years, or possibly a bit sooner. This means that Bitcoin’s price will go “to infinity” against the dollar over the long-term.
Draper underpins his second prediction with the belief that the masses are slowly waking up to the idea that Bitcoin as money is plain better than fiat, in three important ways. Draper says those ways are: (1) people will come to trust Bitcoin more than fiat, because Bitcoin relies on decentralized, permissionless software, while fiat relies on fallible governments and banks, (2) fiat inflates and will continue to do so, while Bitcoin does not, and (3) Bitcoin has higher velocity than fiat, because Bitcoin more efficient, moves faster, and is cheaper to operate.
Due to these factors, Draper thinks at some point within the next decade, there will be a bank run on the dollar and into Bitcoin, and that eventually, the dollar will no longer exist (i.e. it has fully collapsed into Bitcoin, “to infinity”).
Draper is now openly recommending that all families, companies, and countries should own some Bitcoin.
