That actually reminds me of something our Minister said in church a few weeks ago. He asked the congregation if they believed that "Happiness is a Choice". Most people, predictably, said yes.
But then he said it was more complicated than that. Happiness is a choice, he said, IF you make the choice *before* the problems come your way. When things are going well, that's when you need to decide, and meditate, and prepare yourself, and do whatever you need to do to convince yourself that you've made the choice. That way, when the bad stuff comes, you have that foundation already established, you have something to cling to, something to remember.
If you wait until the bad stuff happens, and then people try to tell you, "Happiness is a choice, my dear", that's not helpful. At best, it's a platitude. At worst, it's actively harmful. It's frustrating, and it makes you feel helpless, because at that point, all you can focus on is whatever bad situation you're in, and all the problems you're facing.
I thought that was quite profound, because there are lots of things like that, which people say, and honestly believe, which aren't helpful if they say them when the person is not in a position to hear them.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm really glad things are going well for you right now. I hope it continues. And now that you have the bandwidth, think about putting yourself in the frame of mind where the next setback won't send you crashing to the ground.
Know what I mean? :-)
