Mining requires specialized hardware these days. Your general purpose GPU or CPU cannot keep up with the SHA256 specific ASIC chips, so you wouldn't earn anything at all mining with your regular PC. Snag a little Bitaxe if you want to dip your toes in and see what mining is all about. They make great conversation starters, too.
