Tariffs, though will be good for economic activity in the US, it will spur runaway inflation. Combine this with reduced QT, lower rates or even full QE, will rapidly drive bitcoin into 7 digits and gold into 5 digit prices. If you want to bet on weakening of the dollar, take out as many dollar loans at the lowest interest rates you can because they will be very easy to pay off over a 5 year period.

They also don't understand that for decades the US's economic growth is largely flat or on the decline and this, as measured by the S&P and DJI index funds, is masked by inflation. The only hedge against inflation is to be smart with true growth investments, of which can't be differentiated by big-name securities that primarily go up from FOMO. Bitcoin is the only liquid asset for the masses that can buck this trend regardless of your government's actions.

The Legal Debate
Support for your position:
The federal government is not granted the power to emit bills of credit.
That means under a strict enumerated powers view, it can’t do so.
Especially given the explicit denial of that power to states, the omission for Congress is meaningful.
Opposing view (judicial precedent):
The Legal Tender Cases (esp. Juilliard v. Greenman, 1884) upheld Congress’s power to issue paper money, even not directly tied to borrowing, as part of its implied powers over monetary policy and borrowing.
Courts interpreted "borrowing" as flexible enough to cover paper notes.
However, these decisions are from the post-Civil War era, when Greenbacks had already been issued.

Congress implicitly can issue bills of credit according to --
* Article I, Section 8, paragraph 1:
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
* Article VI, paragraph 1:
All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
* Fourteenth Ammendment, section 4:
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned

Its pretty obvious. The organized crime, media, CIA, FBI and public sector unions (e.g. postal union) (but I repeat myself five times) colluded to fake the election. The problem is every single congressman and senator is culpable and complicit, they make sure of that to make sure they don't expose the system. Cryptographically secure and publically auditable elections are an existing technology, the only reason we don't have it is to maintain the illusion of a government "of, by and for the people."

The gold and silver restriction is on the States, not the Congress, to transact only in gold and silver, and not emit bills of credit (issue bonds).
Article I, Section 8, paragraphs 5&6:
[The Congress shall have Power]
To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;
To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States;
Article I, Section 10, paragraph 1:
No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

Totally fair assessment. Although I will say I doubt that Ukraine would have done such a thing at this particular moment. They desperately need that ceasefire, and an antagonistic strike on Russia's dictator in Moscow would be sure way to ensure that ceasefire never happens.
I'm also not sure that Ukraine has the ability to strike so deep into Russia. Obviously, it could physically be done by small team, but the intelligence needed to effectively plan such a thing is likely out of their reach. Still a possibility to be sure, but IMO its on the bottom part of the list of possibilities.

Client based aggregators make me a little nervous because I always think of Primal and their weird cache server model. Obviously, it could be made a lot smarter and less obstructive, but I think doing that on the client level also negates some of an aggregator's benefit, namely the reduction in data use. If the client is doing it, then all the relays being aggregated are still being downloaded per device. Just some initial thoughts, but I think it's valuable to query these ideas, and brainstorm them because that's how we arrive at great solutions!
-

@ 65912a7a:5dc638bf
2025-03-31 08:36:01
I think I like the idea of trending and recommendations being user-definable client options. I think that strikes a good balance between the utility of those features with the necessity of user control and ownership of data. I don't think we have to choose one or the other. We can have both!

I think it might be a challenge to bring it all under the npub umbrella just because of how the protocol implementation works. 🤔 But think this is a great list, and something that should be the basis of development moving forward.

Given that it was meant to be a demonstration of what tiny pieces of space debris can do to structures like the ISS, with a longterm presence in orbit, I think the choice of aluminum makes sense. The most used material on the ISS is aluminum alloy. The Node modules were actually crafted from a single block of aluminum each. There is some stainless steel in its construction, but it's structural, and relatively insignificant compared with the amount of aluminum used.

And actually, I was mistaken as to the source of this particular piece of plastic. I did some investigation into this photo and apparently, it was an intentional test on the ISS using a light-gas gun in close quarters to show how much damage even a tiny amount of space debris can do. It used a small, 1g piece of plastic the size of a pencil eraser against the block of solid aluminum.
-

@ 65912a7a:5dc638bf
2025-03-31 06:17:58
It shouldn't be. There's all kinds of plastic parts and trim and lining attachments and other auxiliary hardware in rockets as well on the ISS. It's definitely not inconceivable that a small piece of plastic would be among the countless pieces of space debris that are orbiting the planet.

Ingredients
* 800g peeled plum tomatoes (San Marzano)
* 1 medium white onion, peeled and sliced in half
* 5 tablespoons of butter
* Salt to taste
Directions
* Put everything in a large stock pot.
* Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium, and simmer for 45 minutes uncovered, stirring occasionally.
* Discard onion halves and serve with your choice of pasta.

I'm gonna be upset if people don't return the sats. That's just a scumbag move. You're a really generous person, and nobody should be taking advantage of your kindness. 😡

He's out of his fucking mind. It is crystal clear he's a tyrant who sees himself as another Ghengis Khan, or Alexander the Great. He desires empire, and conquest, and has no interest in serving the people. This 3rd term bullshit is just the latest evidence of his anti-American, anti-democratic perspective, and his intention to completely shred the Constitution.

I haven't used the iOS version of Nunchuk, but I use the Android version and it's been an absolute dream. I love it! It feels like a grown-up wallet for people who know what they're doing, and want a wallet with the flexibility and options to work like a pro. I keep Mycelium installed as a secondary wallet because has the ability to sweep paper wallets, and monitor wallets in watch-only mode.

Me too. Although I will say I shamefully got swept up in the Z. Cavaricci jean trend of the late 80s. You had wear them with boat shoes, and roll up the legs about 3in creating a tight cuff, revealing about 4 or 5in of white sock. It was popular to wear a black, long sleeve turtleneck with this outfit, and a hold /golf chain over the outside of the neck. It was easily the douchiest trend I was a part of.

I'm an 80s kid and cell phones weren't a thing until about a year or so after high school. And back then they were just phones. But had smartphones been a thing at the time, I have no doubt they would have been banned from the table. No way would my parents tolerate such a distraction when we sure supposed to be talking about our week, what we did, and any stories about memorable events. It's gotta be tough for parents today to have to wrestle with that issue.

It's an intimate, communal bonding experience. It's why eating a meal with your family regularly is so important. Families that enforce this practice on a regular basis maintain a stronger familial bond, and keep the family a more cohesive unit than families that don't. I'm grateful that my mom ruled with an iron fist, and demanded that we eat together as often as possible, at a minimum of twice a week. It was especially important during the teenage years when the desire to detach and isolate are strongest.

A lot of the people you're describing have psychological disorders and pathological difficulties engaging with the world, and use social media as a crutch to have some semblance of friends and a life. The thing is, I bet if social media wasn't a thing, like imagine it was 1989, I believe at least some of them would be forced to get out of their comfort zone and make efforts to get out into the world due to the inherent human craving for connection.

Those JNCO jeans were the worst. And the bottom 4in of pant legs of literally every pair were soaking wet and frayed from dragging on the group. And almost without exception, the people who wore them stank.

He's already on track to out-pace Biden's whole term and he's only 70 days in. This is what they do. They pretend the Democrats are the exclusive perpetrators of out-of-control spending while consistently out-spending the Democrats. The fact is that both parties have contributed almost equally to the national debt, with the Republicans actually contributing a bit more than the Democrats.
Trump's first term, he added $8.8 trillion to the debt compared with the $6.1 trillion attributed to Biden. The only macro difference between the parties on this issue is that Republicans pretend to be the party of fiscal responsibility and tightening the belt, and the Democrats honestly acknowledge the need for spending to provide the American people with the programs and services they demand.
