"An article I wrote with Troy Cross, published a couple years ago called "Mine Your Values". The idea there—it’s kind of a pun—is that we have values, things we care about and wish to promote in the world.
Step one: mine them—find out what they are, dig a little bit, do some introspection, a little thinking, a little philosophy to figure out your values.
Step two: enact them in the world through your investments. Our hypothesis in that article was that Bitcoin mining is, in fact, one important way for Bitcoiners to enact their values in the world, especially those who care about a sustainable future, carbon neutrality, or reducing carbon emissions.
What we proposed is that Bitcoin is a way to promote a couple of different values—including those environmental ones but also cypherpunk values. If you want run your own relay on your own hardware, you'll need a basic Linux machine, and the relay software of your choice. strfry, HAVEN, and other bitorva relays are popular choices. They're available on GitHub, and require some extensive configuration to get running. You don't need to be a developer, but you do need to be very comfortable installing and configuring software packages.
Another option is to run a hosted relay with Eggstr https://www.eggstr.com They offer a turnkey, hosted strfry relay, along with several other node applications covering nostr, bitcoin, Lightning, and Blossom servers.
If you're new to all this and are unsure of where to start, I'd recommend either the Eggstr server platform, or the relay.tools hosted relays. They're a good way to get started right away, and allow you to learn and get comfortable with running a relay. Running your own relay is a bit more DIY, and would be a good option to consider once you're familiar and accustomed to how it all works.

The price fluctuates because exchanges allow buying and selling. They are using borrowed fiat money to buy and sell trying to scare and squeeze out every penny from new users.
