From a Reader on Mon. 14 April 2025:
“I’m wondering if my tax preparer for the last few years, a former IRS auditor, has been receiving incentives from IRS or government over the years. Reason: This year we had a rollover on a 1099r and she was telling us we had to pay taxes on part of it ($23k extra taxes) during our 4/7/25 appt even though it was rolled over directly into an IRA. She was fear mongering that we had to pay the taxes and unless we got proof, she would not take it off our tax obligation. Next day she was hateful about hubby dropping off paperwork to remove rollover so much that I mentioned income taxes not legal as 16th amendment never ratified by Congress. She then told me she would not be preparing our taxes. I asked if she was firing us and she said yes. I responded, “really? Thank you. That tells me a lot.”

Zum Start werde ich viele Apps einfach übernehmen um den Übergang nicht zu hart zu machen. Habe aber schon den Anspruch, diese ggf. nach und nach zu ersetzen, soweit wie möglich. Aber ganz so schlimm ist mein Setup auch nicht, hatte ja bereits ein Vorbereitungsprojekt und setzte viel Self Hosting auf und wechselte auf FOSS Apps :)

为什么人类需要睡觉？

这个答案根本不是前面的“身体需要休息啊”“不睡觉就会发生免疫风暴”或者“大脑需要清除废物”之类的功能性描述。而是说，在最初的最初，地球刚刚出现生命的时候，大脑都没有呢，何谈清除大脑废物？那么最初的生命有没有睡眠呢？如果没有，睡眠是从哪一批生命开始出现的呢？
先说结论。
地球上最初的生物并没有睡眠或者睡眠的雏形，睡眠雏形出现在第一批依赖氧气生活的生命群体中，距今大概25亿年，那一时期有一个专有名词，叫作“大氧化事件”。
睡眠最初就是一种高效的清除氧自由基对生命体损伤的机制。
当氧自由基的量和阳光强度紧密相关，清除损伤的机制就出现了和阳光强度一致的节律，这个有节律的生命模式后来复杂化了，有神经系统参与进来，后来这个机制和神经系统一起演化成复杂动物的睡眠。
具体来说就是：
2012年的时候，《自然》杂志发表了一篇论文《过氧化还原酶是昼夜节律的保守标记物》（Peroxiredoxins are conserved markers of circadian rhythms）。这个研究团队把注意力聚焦在“过氧化还原酶的氧化-还原”循环过程。
如果回到25亿年前“大氧化事件”的现场，那时的氧气和今天的硫化氢一样，是一种毒气。因为在此之前的二十亿年，地球其实早就有生命了，但所有生命都是在缺氧环境里演化的，各种古细菌、细菌也都是厌氧的，但其中一种生物蓝藻可以利用阳光产生能量，同时排出水和有毒的氧气。
蓝藻的数量最初并不占优势，但是在某些机缘巧合下，比如更加频繁的火山活动中释放出了很多它们需要的磷元素，于是蓝藻数量抑制不住地增加，先是把海水中容易氧化的东西都氧化了，比如铁、硫、甲烷。
接着，海水中的氧含量迅速增加，等海水中氧的溶解度饱和以后，氧气才开始释放到大气中。又因为超强温室气体甲烷最后也被全面氧化了，地球的“棉被”没有了，地球开始大降温，并且引发了一个长达3000万年之久的休伦冰期，在低温和毒气的加持下，厌氧生物至少灭绝了99.5%以上。
幸存下来的生物都是凭实力活下来的，比如真核生物，不论是细胞核，还是线粒体，外面都有一层膜包裹着。这层膜有很多作用，其中一个重要作用就是把它们内部正常运转的环境和外部处处都是氧的环境隔绝开，不能让内部环境随意发生氧化反应。线粒体据说也是之前一种可以利用氧气制造能量的古细菌，它被更大的古细菌吞下肚子之后，没有消化，然后形成了内共生关系，退化成了今天细胞里的线粒体。
1000种生物，只幸存了5种，每种都得演化出高效的保护机制，也就是今天保健品里常说的“抗氧化”。
实际今天每一个生物体、每一个细胞都原生带有极其丰富的抗氧化系统。比如利用酶系统去抗氧化，超氧化物歧化酶，也就是广告里大宝SOD蜜里那个SOD；还有上面说的过氧化氢还原酶，还有谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶。此外还有一些不是酶系统的，比如维生素E、维生素C、尿酸、辅酶Q10、褪黑素等等，它们全都参与抗氧化过程，保护细胞。因为游离出来的氧离子，实在毒性太大，任何分子和它接触，化学性质都会改变。这一变，从前这个分子负责的生化反应步骤就会走样，说不定这个细胞就死翘翘了，所以必须全面地防护才行。
这篇文章聚焦在过氧化氢还原酶上，它们会和过氧化氢（H₂O₂)这种东西结合，产生氧气和水。过氧化氢和水分子很像，水分子叫氧化氢（H₂O），多了一个氧就叫过氧化氢（H₂O₂)。它基本都是在线粒体呼吸链上产生的，线粒体就是吃进氧气，为我们产生ATP （三磷酸腺苷）的那个东西，那上面容易泄露一些活性氧。
过氧化氢还原酶首先和游离氧结合，牺牲了自己，保护了其他的细胞器，按说就不能再起到保护作用了。而还有另外一种物质硫氧还蛋白，还会帮助过氧化氢还原酶去除氧化状态，于是过氧化氢还原酶就可以重新从事抗氧化的工作了。
以上几个反应的速度都和游离氧的浓度高度相关，只有浓度足够，反应速率才会提上去。于是保护的酶先被氧化然后又被还原，就存在一个滞后效应，过氧化氢还原酶的浓度慢慢地爬升，再慢慢地下降，周期性波动。
那刚刚这些与浓度密切相关的化学反应，为什么说它的节奏和阳光变化是高度一致的呢？
因为白天太阳出来，光合作用开启，氧气和氧气附带的各种氧化作用开始增加。至于整个化学反应的链路，它的速度和昼夜节奏是不是匹配，这其实是一种演化机制的淘汰。也就是说，来参与抗氧化的成分恰好能和阳光强度变化吻合。
于是这套机制清除活性氧伤害的效率就特别高，这个能和阳光同步的机制就更容易保护生物不受损，这类生物就留下了更多的后代。
文章把过氧化氢还原酶形容为高度保守的。高度保守，就是任何情况下都没变。到现在不论是人、小鼠、鱼、昆虫、植物、古细菌、细菌，竟然全都在依赖过氧化氢还原酶的抗氧化作用。
文章还猜测，这种蛋白酶很可能在25亿年前就已经出现了，而且结构没有大变，它甚至是在生命分化出古细菌、细菌、真核生物这三大域之前，就已经定型的一种蛋白质。
所以为什么会有睡眠呢？
很可能这是地球生命为了防止大氧化事件的毒气环境而演化出的自我保护机制。在众多可能出现的保护机制中，由于存在阳光强度的变化这个外界条件的约束和筛选，于是最终筛选出了和光强密切相关的一系列物质，帮生物最高效地清除氧自由基。这套生化反应的周期高度吻合了昼夜节律，于是睡眠的雏形就形成了。

Allegedly. So what is the point of sales tax and income taxes. Sales and income would be more than sufficient to fund the public services like police, firefighters and schools. The utilities you alluded to are maintained by mostly private entities who sell their services for profit. That's not how they're maintained. They might be called public infrastructure but they're maintained by private entities. I'm an electrician working on pump stations, purifying and waste facilities all over my state. They make more than enough to cover salaries and maintenance just in utility profits. They have to or their businesses would collapse. That's the whole reason Bitcoin mining is good for the infrastructure-because it gives profit to the utility providers-not the state or any other government (except for compulsory taxation, which again, in its wildly mismanaged state, is theft).
I truly don't understand how you could be a nostrich and defend property tax on anything. The whole point of being here is to own what's yours.
I'm in a shitty mood right now so please understand that I'm trying to be neighborly, but that's not how that works. Property taxes are profit for the state. The means to manage the rest of what your talking about, 95% doesn't come from taxation and the 5% that does is not only unnecessary but more of an inhibition to the utilities and the public than they are a public good, especially in a state like mine where that 5% is less than the 9.5% that I pay on literally anything as sales tax.
Meanwhile tire flattening potholes as far as the eye can see. I hear your perception, and I empathize, but I promise that's not how it works in practice.
