awesome... yeah, i was pretty sure in my last bug hunt i got the last of the worst, only the auth stuff was unhappies
i think i fixed some of that by not locking a socket to auth if it only gets used to do req but i don't think that most clients gasp the concept of a modal socket when nip-11 says restricted_writes

AUTH needs clients that have use cases where AUTH is interesting. Like forums, communities, publishers/readers/gitstuff, etc. It's more an OtherStuff thing.
People use Twitter clones to shout out to the world and see what comes back. No point in AUTHing that.

ok, i installed citrine but idk how i connect it to coracle... does this involve adding a localhost or something? it uses the same port as nostrudel cache relay but can that even be used with amethyst/coracle? and am i gonna put that in my public relay list, because that doesn't seem like it will work

Yeah, forums is a topic-relay based structure.
That said, a community relay can also be a forum/topic relay. The forum would just stick to showing a particular subset/kind of post, but for n number of communities, whereas a fuller community app would only display one community at a time, but many kinds of posts.

i'm not gonna say i told you so but i will probably say i told you so when you discover the additional complexity of adding a query state cache to enable pagination
the better option is to return references to the results so the client can hold this state because it's their business, after all
i've been hinting at the idea of adding a new way of doing filter/text search queries where they return the whole set of event IDs instead of the whole events, because bandwidth is a client problem and for the majority of filter queries, a second match isn't required, meaning the event doesn't need to be decoded from teh database, only its ID found
anyway, i also think that admin API for nostr relays needs to be made more generalised and not baked into the same silly pattern as the nip-01 mashup of event by id and filter match, and teh confusing context-dependent envelope sentinels that you have to interpret based on role

i have kinda sorta released #realy but kinda sorta not... it needs code review, refactoring, probably a lot of documentation, but i just don't have the time for it as a "lone wolf" working on it, and it still seems to not work properly with a lot of clients
this does seem to be mostly the clients fault for their weak auth implementation, i think at this point the most solid auth code is in nostrudel applesauce and coracle's libraries
i do like to shout out to them for this, most recently doing so turned out to be quite incendiary for starting some discusison, no idea how serious any of the follow up is going to be tho... let's just say i'm extremely cynical that they will not care because most users will be using free spamfest relays with CSAM and no moderation or serious care to address exploits of their vulnerabilities

I don't know of any underground Nostr development, and strategically leaking previews is common practice. At least, screencasts and limited alpha prototypes, and stuff.
I think the danger of burning your brand, by releasing too early, isn't taken seriously enough on here, tho. People get tired of trying to work with things that don't work, and it can leave the impression that you are incompetent.

mad because i almost never have outages on my vps.bg and in the past i've found contabo was really good
why are nostr service providers using shitty mainstream cloud (aws/cloudflare/microsoft/google) instead of their own dedicated servers? seems kinda lazy and shitty if you ask me... they are more often plagued by broad outages than individual, geographically separated smaller scale servers
and not to forget the inordinate bullshit especially from cloudflare messing with VPN traffic

Gotcha. You can definitely achieve such an effect with HTLCs (hash time locked contracts) and multi-sig, this is what lightning uses and why force closing a channel takes so long. Unfortunately I don't know the wallet you're looking for, maybe somebody else does.

i'm not interested in nostr as a distraction so much as a place to discuss things, tell my stories and read other people's stories... "content" for me means humans not polished media
i had some really unpleasant lost posts experiences on amethyst a while back that recurred several times with a long time between and i got fed up with trying to compose more than a couple paragraphs with it
