yeah i have been training him with the trigger "scratch" and putting cheesy treats on top of the scratching post and he now just goes to it to scratch and if i say scratch he runs over to it and looks at the top of it to see if i left a treat and then starts scratching on it, it's very easy to associate things and places with words and the expectation of pleasure
stopping bad behaviour is different though, you have to make the bad vibes dissociate, that's why the water pistol or other spray gun is required
i will do the same thing once i start seeing him cable bothering, i'll set up the approved shoelace nearby the scratching post and put treats under it and teach the "snakey" trigger word
cats are easy to train, but teaching aversion without associating yourself with it can be a bit challenging
i don't mind if he shreds the rug he was playing with this morning either, it's my rug, and they aren't very expensive anyway, just a heavy woven coarse cotton thing

the unpleasant scratching from #mochi the #catstr i got last night is a sign of good things it seems
this morning he is sitting on the mat in front of the oscillating heat lamp, and he just briefly grasped the corner of the mat and started biting at it
he has not been playful since he got here, and the reason for this was that he was sick and in a lot of pain, and needing to rest up and be fed good food
about half of the food i feed him now is stuff that i would eat myself, albeit maybe with more salt and maybe spices or some sauce, it makes a big difference when he is sick, because this good nutrition is feeding his immune system, and it may also be helping that the weather has been a bit warmer lately
it is going to be a very happy day when i see his tongue is no longer protruding all day long, that he's not drooling any more, and especially when the yellow stain from the bacteria in his sinus that leaks out through his nose and eyes stops staining his legs and belly... it's already substantially reducing from this now, and the playfulness is a very good sign
only i sorta wasn't prepared for the playfulness... probably need to set up some cardboard boxes and more scrunched up pieces of paper to play fetch with
#thoon he will be like a normal semi-mature cat...
the only thing i'm not so much looking forward to is the initial phase when he starts playing fighty games but hasn't learned to keep his claws retracted, i will have lots of scratches on my hands from that
but i know he will learn it after a while
so it will be worth it
i am a good cat-dad and cat-nurse... he will be very happy with his luck to find someone who loves and understands the nature of the beast

one thing I thought was you could use such a scheme for private DMs on paid relays
for each DM you create an persistent keypair
you can then get say, 200 tokens from your relay each month (valid for that month only), that allow you to whitelist a pubkey to post limited DM events on that relay until the end of the month of the token’s issuance
you can then register these tokens separately from your main connection, via some onion protocol

but i think that as a payment method is shit
they are literally exactly the same as the old silver certificates that Dollars were once upon a time, in wildcat banking days
the risk of them being issued without sats backing them, or the "mint" disappearing without honoring their tokens is very high
the privacy features many tout entirely are dependent on the ethical calibre of the mint operators, and it is very simple to see how they can be paid to deliberately not issue them in a proper way so as to make it possible to track who is using them and where they are spending them
they make good vouchers though, such as gift certificates, but even in this situation they need to be constrained by giving them expiry dates for the protection of the users, to limit the risk of the tokens not being redeemable
they could be a good way to sell uniform quantities of bandwidth, for example, on an internet service or anonymously paid anonymising network along similar lines as Tor, or for buying blocks time for a time based subscription like relay service or music/video streaming

We have seen, that the alternative is usually e-cash. Almost everyone moved from custodial Lightning to custodial e-cash. The hurdle of running a server is too high.

Anyone worried about privacy could simply connect the addresses to a new npub, instead of the one they usually use. Nostr offers a layer of obfuscation _on top of_ the addresses.

No, that's a normal Lightning wallet. It Is intermediated by a server (like Alby or Geyser), so if the server goes down, so does your payment rail, even if your own node is up.

The fees were really high, for a while, but that's over.
I'm also kind of exasperated at the idea that Nostr should only cover micropayments. Why can't I use Nostr to pay my electric bill or rent an apartment?
Because we're already using it to rent apartments and contribute to crowdfunding and etc. If you wanted more privacy, you could just keep the wallet info on separate npubs.
