We have seen, that the alternative is usually e-cash. Almost everyone moved from custodial Lightning to custodial e-cash. The hurdle of running a server is too high.

Anyone worried about privacy could simply connect the addresses to a new npub, instead of the one they usually use. Nostr offers a layer of obfuscation _on top of_ the addresses.

No, that's a normal Lightning wallet. It Is intermediated by a server (like Alby or Geyser), so if the server goes down, so does your payment rail, even if your own node is up.
Bolt12 is the long string, in the profile text.
Some clients aren't showing my newest profile data, tho.

The fees were really high, for a while, but that's over.
I'm also kind of exasperated at the idea that Nostr should only cover micropayments. Why can't I use Nostr to pay my electric bill or rent an apartment?
Because we're already using it to rent apartments and contribute to crowdfunding and etc. If you wanted more privacy, you could just keep the wallet info on separate npubs.

Running a server (that's a server, not an app, as it's constantly running a service) is the thing we're trying to get around.
I think we can see, that Nostr has been steadily discouraging self-custody options and funneling everyone into "private" and "good UX" e-cash. I'm interested in some pushback. E-cash is probably less-secure than Monero or USDT, in practice, as the chances of getting rugged are quite high.
And what is the norm, depends upon the use case. We should maybe think harder about use cases, where people might want to move more than 1000 sats. Those use cases apparently exist and aren't rare, but people shouldn't be using ecash for them, out of desperation and exasperation.
