Well, if you think of it like a coupon or a voucher, then it starts to make more sense.
E-cash can only be redeemed at the mint who issued it, so they're like gift cards or electronic bus tickets. I could see proprietary mints, where the e-cash could be redeemed for a service or product.

Will the OPA wallet be available only as a subscription feature or will there be a free level at some point?
Use case: I want to onboard a friend to bitcoin quickly, I gift them some sats with the OPA wallet. They can start using it right away, connect it to NWC, etc., but the premium features in the app are locked. If they want to upgrade later, they can pay directly from their wallet.

there would be no need for the confusing EOSE if you just cut the protocol in two and socket for subscription, starting now (after eose) and query, for up to now
queries use a different algorithm, they ask the database, where subscriptions are when the server receives messages and they are to be propagated to subscribers
this is one of the dumbest things about the nostr protocol, using sockets to do queries and then assuming that the client wants to subscribe when usually they don't, and often aren't even listening for them, but they hold the socket open anyway

I think it's a good token/voucher/coupon system, but not a replacement for Lightning.

polling is a substitute for server initiated messaging, so that's when you use sockets
it's a shitty substitute also, because it's heavy traffic for usually nothing, and it kills realtime interactive parts of teh protocol
but really, on a twitter clone style UI, when do you even need this realtime stuff? one socket that is running a subscription would sort it out, everything else is driven by clicks

i like cooking over charcoal but i haven't quite mastered how to get it to burn at just the right temperature... my skewers of beef often end up very dry and charred on the outside while too rare on the inside (practically raw)
not a big priority though, i feel like probably better i stick to frying stuff in butter anyway

and it confuses programmers who don't realise they are causing the relays to spawn dozens of threads every time a client connects, that don't shut down unless the client is closed
