The #jiujitsu version of 'stay humble and stack sats' is 'tap early and tap often'.
It's about not letting your ego ruin your effort and progress. Tonight at open mat I tapped a lot. I wasn't on my best game. But that's okay - I showed up and got my training time. That's a win. But I also let my off night catch me off guard.
I was humbled with a loud pop of my ankle from a friend's toe holding they had on me. I didn't realize the position I was in and my own struggle to escape it ended up contributing to a near injury. Luckily, all is good. No immediate sign of injury after a brief rest. 🤙
I'll say it again. Tap early. Tap often. Stay humble. Train smart.

Boot from live USB installer, open a shell, mount the OS partition, edit /etc/fstab, change UUID values to the correct ones (use lsblk) or just go with the vibes and use non-deterministic names like /dev/mmclpk0p1, they will work almost 100% of the time.

I went shopping for Valentine’s Day today, a little local downtown shop. I grabbed a few items, went to the counter and the cashier who also ran the store began looking for price tags. Of which, there were none.
She said “we really need to start putting prices on things”
I said “I agree”
She told me my total was $31.26 I have no clue how she knew, but I took her word for it. So I handed her a $50 bill.

She went to the back and grabbed Mr boyfriend who came out with the $50; he popped the cash drawer open, froze solid for a full 10 seconds before handing me a $20 bill.
Moral of the story; today I learned taxes don’t exist.

The grading system in schools is one of the biggest problems in this regard; it conditions people into thinking that you have to always get good grades and never slip up in order to achieve anything, effectively turning us into paper-pushing machines. Mastery and understanding (which come from doing and failing) should be focused on rather than a numerical abstraction of what we think knowledge is. We should embrace failure as something to bounce back and learn from, not as something we need to avoid.

The main tradeoff to consider and/or break out of comes down to accepting some data silos versus getting content discovery and facing censorship. The solutions that I mentioned are simple and probably get most of the job done, but they also generally put new users at a disadvantage in terms of being discovered (even with outbox support since relays would be more "locked down") and make it harder for existing users to discover new content. On the other side, we would have great tools to find new stuff and discover new communities, but might have to face off against a lot of pressure to shut down relays or feed everything into a data collection machine in order to monitor content, and that's definitely not a ideal.
The good thing is that, as users, we have the ability to run our own relays and decide our own content fetching/storage/moderation policies, and that's ultimately why I think Nostr-based applications and infrastructure will win out against it all. The tools to do so just need to get more accessible (which they are) and consumer behavior needs to change (which it slowly is).
