i just discovered that the builder of this little cottage i live in used multistrand wire for the household electrical system
as a consequence, the light in my bedroom had become disconnected, due to the fact that the pressure connection on it expects thicker wires to be pushed into it
the evidence was very clear, in the amount of soot around the connection that it had been arcing for some time

this one literally could catch fire, the upper half of the building is all composite fibre board with a tiled facade
i mean, i don't at all know what to say, how could someone literally think it's ok to put wires designed for low amperage into the walls of a building? minimum should be 8 amps
i doubt these wires could take 5, and taht's not counting the connectivity problem from all the installed devices that expect a solid fucking mm diameter wire

Yeah, I am seeing more and more frequent payments on LN that would have been cheaper to make on-chain– As a general rule, smaller payments are cheaper on LN whereas larger ones are cheaper on-chain since fees on LN are based on ppm (dependent on size) and fees on-chain are only dependent on # of UTXOs involved. So currently with low mempool fees, on-chain can be just as cost-effective if not more than LN.
However it seems that there are plenty of use cases where (near) instant final settlement is important, even if it's not the cheapest option. Same would be true comparing to a traditional Wire Transfer, I'd argue LN is still a vast improvement even if fees are relatively similar.

Some proof-of-payment (POP) instead of proof-of-waste. We all want to know how relays and devs will get paid, yet some support POW? Provably pay sats to me or any of my follows and I will consider it a non-zero-cost message.
