I agree with you, and I want to calculate engagement between you and me, for example, and use it to build a web of trust. Mutual engagement rather than global engagement.
So between you and me, say we talk often in replies and zap every now and then. We build up a balance of engagement and deepen our trust. These weights are to calculate that. But like you said, you might value these different than I do, which adds a wrinkle to any effort to calculate it.

Just localhost on my desktop for now haha. Honestly, I want to run it over tor and keep it there.
I bought trustgraph.me a long time back for when I have a working model that I can run to map the whole network. If it works out, you could do note discovery there. I can only speculate, but I'd use one initech.global VPS and docker compose until it needs to scale out, and the first thing I'd move is neo4j into a dedicated host and connect over BOLT. (Funny how their binary protocol vibes with Nostr zaps) Event content won't be stored there, so the neo4j bandwidth is much lower.

I’m going to find out if my dad still has any of them. Some of it dated back to the 1960s. Unfortunately they had a basement flood a while back and I know a lot of things including a bunch of photo albums and some artwork I made as a teenager were destroyed.

Yeah, I have it up on github. It requires a neo4j instance running somewhere, and I forked rust-nostr and included it as a submodule in case I want to edit it.

As of right now, it acts like a client or cache, connecting to my preferred relays and pulling events. It uses python and rust-nostr, but neo4j also provides drivers in Go, which would also be a good fit with existing nostr libraries (go-nostr, eventstore, khatru).
Personally, I'm using this approach because it's in line with the nature of graph-databases. Graph algorithms work best when you have a starting point you expand out of. So I'm avoiding mass-imports of a lot of potentially disconnected data and spam. To get a global view, I want to expand out using mutual-engagement-driven web of trust rather than processing every event on the network. New npubs would have to put in some proof of work engaging with the network to gain ground in this kind of web of trust model, which flips over the platform model where incoming engagement is all that matters.

I thought about that. Especially because when I store them in neo4j, you can backlink the text note to it's quote with no overhead.
My case for a lower quote weight is that it pulls your note into the quoter's network and out of yours. Heck, you could potentially argue that it's worth more for increasing your reach.
