Likes or reactions are inclusive. People use them and I don’t think they are pure vanity metrics. There is value to reactions behind a simple like. Even a like has some value as a read receipt. We could have a client without reactions - and I’m sure we’ll have many. But, at this point we don’t give every user a wallet the moment they create a key - we could - but we don’t. People are working on this. I’m mostly certain that if we remove reactions it won’t go over well. We already give people options to go #onlyzaps. Soon I’m sure we’ll have dedicated clients too. I think zaps are awesome, but I don’t think the current state of things is sufficient for them to totally displace reactions. Not saying we won’t get to a place where they will, but we’re not there yet.

Is it the same old firehose of information that aims to maximize time on screen and ad revenue?
Is it control by a corporation that bends knee to the current administration and decides who and when they can deplatform someone for arbitrary reasons?
Is it more of the same walled garden, do anything possible to keep you on our platform?
Me thinks not. Nostr and some variation / improvement we have yet to discover is where the puck is going. We’re kind of already there. We have portable identities, a decentralized network, flexible development, no censorship, personalized feeds / algorithms, value based metrics and less emphasis on vanity metrics.
What also made the iPhone powerful is the fusion of hardware and software created specifically for that hardware. The App Store set a new path that didn’t involve pre-installed software. Nostr doesn’t have dedicated hardware yet, but it may get somewhat of a dedicated “os” with nostrdb. What new UX might that unlock? I’m excited to see.
Where else might the puck end up? VR? AR? Dedicated hardware? A totally new UX and UI? We already have interesting designs in the process for zapping people. What might new value-driven interactions look like? I’m certain we have the beginnings of something amazing, and that no other tech comes close. We have a massive first mover advantage now and I’m excited to see how things unfold.

it's built in, you can construct filters for this... i was chatting with him the other day about various relay index related subjects, in fact, and really, to do more cool stuff with relays we need to have more indexes and probably a more advanced query mechanism
i don't think we realy quite need to implement graphql exactly, but simply adding full result generation and pagination, and the necessary garbage collected query cache that is required to serve up the paginated results correctly in an efficient form
i've been thinking about adding such a query mechanism to a NIP-98 authed HTTP endpoint, but it is quite a bit of extra work to cache queries
like, i'm writing an index for npubs right now, as my next current task as a mechanism for compressing especially follow/mute lists down to very small lists of index keys instead of the whole npub
so what i would have in mind is it accepts a standard query, and then gives you the metadata of the result, ie, total number of results, and it has a list of all the event serial numbers cached to a hash of the canonical form of the filter that generated it, and you can then ask it for result-per-page/page number and voila, pagination
but it needs a second, temporary index, it could be kept in memory or it could be stashed in a flat file under a hash of the canonical formatted filter
and yes, i already have a filter canonicalisation algorithm and have applied it somewhere, i forget exactly now, but it generates a truncated hash identifier of filters for some reason
