Images and Shitcoin tokens are being embedded into transactions. With more space available, more of this can happen, making it easier. There's also the issue of the unknowns. We know that this will increase the spam or images and Shitcoins. But what else will this allow? The unknowns are the scary part that we should not forget about.

An academic detail that interested me is the idea of attaching a signature to every published pubkey to prevent embedding data. It's interesting that for ECDSA specifically, it is possible to "recover" a pubkey from an essentially "fake" signature. It works like this: the base equation is s = k^-1 (Hash(message) +R_x * p) where p is the private key, R_x is the x-coord of the point R, where R = kG.
In the general case you can "back-out" a random pubkey from a signature you choose; you don't even need a private key! Choose s at random (which could be 32 bytes of text or jpg), then for a given message m, calculate H(m) as normal, then choose k at random as normal, yielding value for R_x as normal. Then, the public key for which (R, s) validates will be P = (R_x)^-1 * (sR - H(m) G), as you can check by simple algebra.
so the pubkey will appear on chain as random, but the attached signature (R, s) will contain the same amount of "published" data. However, not only can this "leak"/"hole" in the idea be trivially avoided, but also it doesn't work in Schnorr. For ECDSA, the "message" will of course be a matter of consensus (**), and if it includes the public key itself, this trick is avoided. In Schnorr we already have the same defence because it is "pubkey-prefixed" Schnorr, forcing the pubkey inside the challenge hash.
It's still amusing to look for other similar "holes" in the idea though .. even though such a scheme would never be viable, adding 64++ bytes to each output ...
(**) (another detail is that when m is a bitcoin transaction message, it implicitly commits to the pubkey via the prevout you're spending from)

They can. They can just make it illegal to own. They can also convice at gunpoint every other country to do the same. They can put a property tax of 50% yearly on your Bitcoin. They can do many things to devalue it. In fact, I expect them to do so at some point.
Tracking these days is farily straight-forward. Coinbase already knows who is who and since most coins are there, the anonymity is already quite small. Anything outside of a coinjoin is fully traceable. They just need time to rebuild the entire graph with people's names on it. Since the chain will last forever, it's only a matter of time until every transaction is identifiable.

I’m going to keep fighting for bitcoin to be adopted and used as widely as possible. And keeping fighting for progressive lawmakers to get this and back off the attacks.
But, there’s still a huge chance I just have fundamental disagreements with these people. For instance, if they go the way of Warren that is a cashless, no privacy, KYC and permission in everything financial existence….
They want to eliminate crime (impossible) by controlling the tool - money.
I have a fundamental disagreement with that and think it tramples on every fundamental right and civil liberty in this country. But Dems really haven’t come for bitcoin like that…yet. They could feel more emboldened to with trumps crypto scams.
Hopefully they get with the program that going the way of state communism and control is a losing battle in this country and voters don’t want it.
