GM Nostr, I’m returning after an 8 month hiatus. I took about a 4 month break from all socials before returning to X during the election so I could keep up with the news cycles. I’ve now reached the point where X is just tiresome. The creator payment structure incentivizes engagement farming and led to the rise of anonymous “citizen journalists” who twist headlines into fantastical narratives. As I waded through this cesspool of half-truths, I realized I was missing out on the signals I truly cared about - so, I have returned!

Чтоб ограничить круг читателей надо отдельно городить relay с авторизацией или какие-нибудь nip выдумывать (может и выдумали уже, не в курсе). Какое уж тут распоряжение контентом. Нет его.
В случае Инсты конечно у тебя соглашение с Инстой и работают их порядки, а не твои. Но контроля больше так как платформа закрытая. Теперь и Twitter такой же.

🌎 Just returned to Luxembourg from Los Angeles. Amid my jetlagged haze, I reflect on the gut-wrenching destruction caused by the wildfires.
🔥 As I traveled the 405 to LAX, the apocalyptic scene of the smoke-filled LA skyline and plumes from the Palisades and Eaton fires was unforgettable. The fire truck on a nearly empty 405 was very eerie.
📉 The toll:
• 12,000+ structures destroyed, ~200,000 people evacuated.
• >30,000 individuals lost homes or livelihoods, with many businesses also reduced to ashes.
📊 The causes:
• In 2022, 87% of wildfires were human-caused (nifc.gov). This year appears no different.
• 𝑃𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑠 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑒: Likely caused by embers from the Lachman Fire, started by illegal fireworks on New Year’s Day.
• 𝐸𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑛 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑒: Possibly sparked by a downed power line.
🚨 Exacerbating factors:
The main factors in both fires are extreme Santa Ana winds and very dry conditions. Yet there are other human factors, too.
• The 117M-gallon Santa Ynez Reservoir was empty for months due to sanitary conditions. Hydrants went dry after exhausting 3M gallons in the Palisades tanks. The last two winters (2022 and 2023) brought above-average rainfall. Its emptiness reflects a missed opportunity to prepare for fire season.
• Budget cuts likely hindered fire preparedness:
• Mayor Bass cut LA Fire’s budget by ~$20M.
• Gov. Newsom reduced CalFire’s funding by $100M.
• This may have impacted brush clearance inspections and mitigation efforts.
🔎 Responsibility:
The blame lies not with climate change or diversity programs as some on social media are saying. It lies with humans—criminal, negligent, and incompetent.
• Illegal fireworks are criminal acts.
• Power lines are built in vulnerable ways.
• Property owners neglected fire preparedness.
• Budget decisions resulted in reduced preparedness on public land and exacerbated response challenges.
💡 Lessons to learn:
• 𝐹𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠: Bring campaigns like Smoky Bear back to the mainstream to educate the public on fire risks and prevention.
• 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑜𝑖𝑟 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡: Policy should prioritize keeping fire-related reservoirs full, even if offline as potable sources.
• 𝐼𝑚𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑔𝑟𝑖𝑑: Power lines should be improved and buried or otherwise made safe for all weather conditions.
• 𝐴𝑐𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦: Let investigators do their job. Those responsible for criminal acts should be prosecuted. Negligent officials must be replaced by competent civil servants.
💔 My heart goes out to all those affected. Let’s focus on recovery and ensure this disaster spurs meaningful action to prevent future tragedies.

You can either add a keyboard to the OS for the languages you speak (which is the right way of using multiple languages on Android) or when a translated text appears, you have a message at the bottom of the text where you can click and disable that language especifically.

i literally got them to write off a history of refund claims on VAT in australia totalling over 30k AUD and i got a special letter from the secretary of taxation claiming that they were not obliged to write off my debt as per the document i sent them and i replied a while later demanding they send back the payment instrument if it was not good
and that was that
they then sent me 2 more fraud bills abotu it and then gave up

But what do they choose instead of making their posts credible by signing them with a private key? Exactly, dependence on another privately owned US service provider, which is probably WhatsApp at the moment. 😁
