US govt wants developers to stop coding 'unforgivable' bugs

US authorities have labelled buffer overflow vulnerabilities "unforgivable defects”, pointed to the presence of the holes in products from the likes of Microsoft and VMware, and urged all software developers to adopt secure-by-design practices to avoid creating more of them.
Buffer overflow vulnerabilities occur when software unexpectedly writes more data to memory storage than has been allocated for that data. The extra information spills into other memory, altering it. Smart attackers can feed carefully crafted data into software with these bugs to hijack the flow of the program so that it can be made to do malicious things, or simply crash it.

💯. If hzrd confirms that this doesn't go against the Blossom specs and fiatjaf is happy with it, I'm happy to implement a PR against khatru (not a "right now" thing as I'm juggling a lot of things, but as in a soon...ish thing). Thinking about it, we don't even need to change the signature of the LoadBlob callback. Khatru's Blossom server can have a separate setting or built-in callback implementation for redirection.
E.g. (just making stuff up for now):
appendFileExtension := true
redirectType := bl.MovedPermanently
bl.LoadBlob = append(bl.LoadBlob, bl.redirect("https://mycdn.com/something/{sha256}, redirectType, appendFileExtension))
I can probably think of a better API. The main point being, I think this can be done as built-in khatru functionality without the need for breaking changes to the previous API. Then folks will have a way to serve media from a proper CDN.

The latest trend among bitcoineirs is asking monerobros how many transactions happen on LN or "give me a LN transaction", the issue there is of course no one can tell if there is a script kid sending millions of LN payments back and forth to itself, making this a useless debate that does not measure any meaningful economic activity, nor its privacy.
What you can do on the other hand, is actually provide them real world data of real economic activity, which we do have, like shopinbit's latest volume data:

You can easily see that Monero :default: takes the lead on January 2025 at 56.3% of their volume of payments, while LN ⚡ does a mere 0.4%. That's a really low tx count for real economic activity, plus a really low anon set and not much privacy if you think those users either use custodial wallets or are connected to a large LSP, or even if doing LN perfectly, they are still a small crowd.
Next time a bitcoiner challenges you, challenge them to create a real world business, take LN and Monero as payment, and tell us how it goes! We already have the data, now it's their turn to complete the challenge.

Acho que isso não se aplica a tudo, como redes p2p como torrenting é grátis, usar a rede onion é grátis, então o ideal como sempre é se for usar, rodar seu próprio node de nano mas a questão de taxa em criptomoeda serve apenas pra limitar ataque sybils aí no caso da nano não sei como eles resolveram ataques de spam, acho que já ouvi falar algo como um pequeno PoW a partir de certo ponto. Ah e a lightning não é instantânea e grátis também?
