The problem with this is medical expenses are limited. You must exceed 7.5% of adjusted gross income, then your total itemized deductions more than the standard deduction ( $14,600 single or $29,200 married filing joint), otherwise you don’t get a benefit.
While it sounds good to say, you’re probably not getting anything but conversation.
While your gym membership may meet the criteria as a medical expense so you it is deductible. When you run the numbers, you don’t actually get a benefit from this medical deduction. I’d bet most people that itemize don’t get a medical deduction.

FYI if you're in the US you may be able to write off your gym membership as a medical expense if you get your provider to word it correctly. May not be able to write the whole year off, but at least some of it. Not advice just something I found interesting.
