Rejection of religion isn't rejection of faith. One can be an atheist who believes in the strength of encryption, for example, but their belief is just that: a belief. There is no proof that P ≠ NP, and thus actions done with that underpinning are led by faith. Human action and growth have to be driven by faith in something; otherwise, we wouldn't have the will to do anything.
What rejection of religion is is a denial of a human construct of control that, regardless of how benevolent and pure its foundation claims to be, has without fail been used to subjugate and divide humanity. Religion can be useful at an individual, self-actualizing level, but that utility breaks down and is higly likely to become corrupted at a societal one.
Humans are inherently moral and driven to act in their self-interest, which, when taken to its maximum, is actually a collective interest. Every day we evolve to work and fight with one another to reach a point of pure oneness; it's just a volatile path to get there. There doesn't need to be a "God" to tell us this; we're all a sliver of the universe, a realization of its consciousness, part of a greater whole, and the crowning of a higher class of entity denies us the agency to live that reality to its fullest.

Got it. fetchEvents is just a wrapper over subscribe with closeOnEose anyway (see https://github.com/nostr-dev-kit/ndk/blob/master/ndk/src/ndk/index.ts#L707-L712 ). Not the cleanest workaround, but if you don't want to go down to the subscribe level you can always wrap or copy and paste fetchEvents to your own "fetchEventsWithTimeout" function, e.g. you can use Promise.race between fetchEvents and a timeout promise that automatically rejects the promise after a certain amount of time.

What’s the best way to tell if an account is a bot/scammer?
I got a lot of new followers today. Thank you! I noticed a lot of them post the exact same post. Almost like looking at the same account with different names and PFP’s. That seems like too much of a coincidence and a red flag.
Unfortunately, unless I can figure out a way to verify that these accounts are real people and not bots.. I cannot zap in good faith. Right now the easiest way for me to “verify” you’re real is if you’ve put up your own money for a check mark.
I wish it didn’t have to be this way but I’m sure I’ve sent to hardest money to ever exist to scammers and bots and that just doesn’t sit well with me.

I'm more on the relay side of things, but I did write some scripts (mostly to clean crap out of my relays) and hit the same issue. Can you replace fetchEvents with subscribe? Subscrihe behaved much better for my use cases.
