Another downside of running a coordinator is this: in my model, the coordinator gives every user of his pool some amount of inbound capacity; e.g. let's suppose it is 2 million sats, which is the default amount of inbound capacity Acinq gives to users of phoenixd.
In a pool of 100 people, that means the coordinator needs enough capital to allocate 2 million sats apiece to each of 100 channels. That involves locking up 200 million sats, i.e. 2 bitcoins. And if the coordinator plans to host a new signing ceremony for a new pool whenever another 100 users want to do it, that means they constantly need to have an additional 2 or more bitcoins on hand whenever 100 or more users queue up to do a signing ceremony.
The cost of capital is pretty high, not many people can afford that, and there is an inherent advantage to pick the same coordinator as everyone else (namely, doing so eliminates LN routing fees and stuck payments in more cases), so users are likely to pick the richest coordinator, which is not ideal.
Another downside is regulatory risk. Samourai ran a coinjoin coordinator server and got arrested for failure to implement AML compliance even though their server did not take custody of user funds. Coinpool coordinators will probably face a similar risk. They can shout all they want to about being non-custodial, but the feds would probably arrest the operator(s) unless they either (1) shut down before getting too popular or (2) deny entry to users who refuse to fill out AML forms.

sadly bitrefill does not take XMR directly even though they take other crypto like LTC, BCH, Tron, usdt, etc, so we can't tell how much they receive from swaps for example, people that use an instant exchange to send xmr and receive other coins in the other end, but according to those swapping tools like the Orange Fren aggregator most swaps are also done with XMR as a pair, then this means any shop, big or small, can have active XMR users who can't actually pay in XMR

I am designing my implementation with an "admission fee" system where the coordinator charges people money to get into the pool. In this design, I think reputation is important. Nothing stops a coordinator from charging 100 people $1 to get into the pool and then running off with the money without ever actually letting them in. In order to allow coordinators to grow a reputation for honesty, I think it is important that they be *pseudonymous,* rather than *anonymous.*
I did think of a way to do the admission fee atomically (i.e. so that users don't pay unless they get into the pool), which would allow for full anonymity because in this alternate model, the coordinator is not even trusted with a single sat. But the way I thought of requires each user to broadcast a base layer transaction in the "sad path."
For example, if a troll joins the signing ceremony and then refuses to sign anything, that would force each user to use the sad path to recover their admission fee, and thus do a base layer transaction. I suspect a typical base layer mining fee will cost more than $1 in the majority of cases where a coinpool might be desirable, so doing the funding transaction atomically (at least the way I thought of doing it) would give trolls the ability to cause asymmetric misery in a pool of e.g. 100 people. Namely, it would only cost them 1 uneconomical base layer transaction to make 100 people do an uneconomical base layer transaction or lose their money.
I thought that was an unreasonable tradeoff, especially when the admission fee is likely to be a low amount: any coordinator who charges a *large* admission fee is likely to be dispreferred by users, who will likely gravitate toward coordinators with three characteristics: (1) they charge a low admission fee (2) they have a good reputation concerning "not stealing the admission fee" (3) they have a good reputation concerning uptime
