In the future we will have a wider range of signers, and users will be able to choose their signer in an advanced wizard tab, so that risk is really minimized. A signer is a really simple and lightweight process, it can be hosted on a phone too, so maybe you can choose friend's or familiy's signers, too.

Probably, but I have no idea what the limitations are in iOS that have kept something like that from being built already. Not a dev here, just a power-user and one that only uses Android for mobile these days.
There are a lot of ideas about what the ideal onboarding experience should look like. I think they will all be tried and we will narrow down on which is best based on how well received they each are by non-technical users.
I've thought it would be a great idea to have a signer built into a password manager, like Bitwarden. However, there are a LOT of people who still don't use password managers for some reason. (What is wrong with you people?)
Others like the idea of building it into a native client on each device, such as Damus on iOS and Amethyst on Primal, etc. Perhaps all native Nostr clients could have it built in, and users would just choose which one they want to use for it. I think this would create artificial lock-in for whatever client they chose. Yes, they COULD just set up a different client as their signer, if they wanted to switch, but most would just see this as an enormous hassle, especially if they have remote signing set up with multiple other clients that they would need to set up all over again.
Another idea I have seen that would possibly work on Android, but could never work on iOS, is to have the signer built into a Nostr app store, so that the user would use the app store for their original onboarding and for finding apps to use with their signing credentials. Over here on Android, that would maybe mean nostr:nprofile1qyv8wumn8ghj7enfd36x2u3wdehhxarj9emkjmn99uqzqun2rcnpe3j8ge6ws2z789gm8wcnn056wu734n6fmjrgmwrp58q390rp63 adding it to nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yhxummnw3ezucnpdejz7qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yh8qunfd4skctnwv46z7qpq0r8xl2njyepcw2zwv3a6dyufj4e4ajx86hz6v4ehu4gnpupxxp7sdvr7w9 . I think he has more ambitious goals than just having Nostr apps in his appstore, though, as can be readily seen by perusing what is already available there.
Personally, I think having it as a separate app, like Amber, is just fine. I would love to see that signer app actually become the app used to onboard new Nostriches, and then suggest to them clients they can use with the signer, and how to get Zapstore in order to find more. However, for that to happen, the signer app needs to be readily available in the system's main app-store, otherwise you are expecting newbies to download it directly from GitHub or first get Obtainium or Zapstore (ALSO not available in the Google Play Store) to download it.
Flow should be: Go to app-store > install signing app > set up basic profile > back up nsec now or skip till later > select client to try and be redirected to download it > open client and main option for login is using a signer app which automatically reaches out to already installed and set up signer > be amazed because the client you just logged into has your profile information and a default feed because you haven't followed anyone yet.

We don't really have any mechanism for posting specific topics to specific relays. However, a relay operator could set up their own relay that aggregated notes about a specific topic, and then anyone wanting to go peruse that relay specifically could do so with one of the clients that allows you to see relay-based feeds.
Most folks wanting to post about a specific topic just use appropriate hashtags, so users can find those notes regardless of the relay they are posted to.
I think topic-based communities are a great reason to run a relay, though. nostr:nprofile1qqsf03c2gsmx5ef4c9zmxvlew04gdh7u94afnknp33qvv3c94kvwxgspr3mhxue69uhksmmyd33x7epwvdhhyctrd3jjuar0dak8xtcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7208x3z is the guy really putting work into this usecase with his Flotilla client.

If NIP-46 can be made more reliable, I am ALL FOR this onboarding flow. In fact. I would present the remote signing bunker string as, "This is how you log into Nostr apps. No email or password needed. Just keep this in a password manager and paste it into any compatible client. They will have it listed as signing in using a "bunker." Here's a list of clients:..." Then just give the nsec as a way to recover the bunker if it is compromised. Done.
This quorum of FROST signers is very interesting indeed! No single point of failure. However, it is still a relatively small group needed to collude, and I assume you need their cooperation to retire a bunker string, right? So if they DID collude, it would be no different from your nsec being compromised.

NIP-07 offers a good experience, but unfortunately no one use extensions. NIP-55 is a really good solution, but it's not so immediate and works only for mobile apps.

Yakihonne already does this pretty good under the video tab. Pretty good notifications when your follows publish video of the above kinds as well there too.
But otherwise for personal use and fun:
Some of us are already there. When its not on the market, we are the nostr market. Just some page that already pulls kind 1s with media links only (blossoms links in notes work great), 30311, 34235, 34236, youtube links and I forgot what else (I was going for stemstr but I think nobody has used it for awhile and wavlake stopped using nostr events, shame, althought their old feed still works) and works with npubs the user inputs, your follows are your wot, that's it. Works with rss so it can be loaded in the podcasts apps without much faff, that narrows down the subscriptions even more especially when certain npubs start to publish more quality video content. Logs with extention,Amber and bunker for convenience or not. Will eventually work with the relays from 10002 and not just the fixed list of big relays. Podverse is ok with it and even fountain got better loading private rss hence loading media from rss of an npub you choose to load and not just the official feed. Much to be added but its a fun playground and eliminates the global spam, reduces the noise and keeps focus. Something has to be done about discoverability of media by topic, tag, whatever .... on global but at first you trust the follows to not publish shit anyway.

It's hard to imagine how sharing in a different kind would scale to different apps.
Let's say, I have follows on Amethyst, on my Blog and on Olas. They are different follows. One sees my kind 1s, the other my kind 20s.
If I want to share the podcast, I might want to share with both. For Amethyst, I need to prepare a short post. For my Blog, I need to write a little longer and provide more content. For Olas, I need to prepare a picture that would say the same thing.
If there is a TikTok-like app, then I need a video of me inviting people to the podcast. Or maybe a way to quickly make a video clip out of the podcast with my Olas picture + the podcast audio.
It's going to be hard for Fountain to offer sharing on all of these different types of media. And the amount of options will grow over time.

What do you mean by "a major if"? If the thing you're sharing is not a Nostr event then you have no other way besides sharing a link in a kind:1, so you will share a link in a kind:1, there is no discussion there.
My point is that if you're sharing Nostr-native content that isn't short text notes then you should share those as the correct kind and optionally quote them in a kind:1.

-
@ b7274d28:c99628cb
2024-12-20 19:05:57
It's kind of like posting a podcast in a kind 1 note, right? No one is going to stop their scrolling to go listen to a podcast. However, if they are opening up their podcast app and see that someone they already follow shared a podcast out that they had never heard of, they may check it out there.
There's also not really a graceful way to encourage folks to share podcasts or videos they really liked as a different kind from a kind 1 focused client. That means most users are just going to share that content in kind 1 because it's the least friction way to do so.
Hence having a separate client that aggregates a feed of that specific type of content shared in kind 1 notes for when you do want to kick back and watch some videos would be useful.

*You can still keep your Alby Lightning address and either collect sats (up to 50k) as fee credits on our node
or connect your Alby Account to other NWC wallet, like CoinOS
or connect it to someone's Hub Friends&Family
or start your own node 😉
In any case, you do not lose you Lightning Address 😉
Best

Umbrel is still not able to support an external HD, as far as I know. Hopefully that changes in the near future.
I mirror my Umbrel's drive every couple months.

You have a couple options. You can use Tailscale which is a VPN which makes your devices able to connect remotely but act as though they are on the same local network. Or, if you own a domain, you can set up Nginx on your Umbrel after configuring a bit of port forwarding on your router. Trust me when I say this is far less complicated than it might sound.

It's definitely worth a look. The original release left a lot to be desired, but Hello Games has done well at redeeming themselves with the updates.

The extensions like Alby and Nos2x are just for web apps.
What's available for mobile apps depends on your operating system. There aren't currently any signer apps available for iOS. On Android we have #Amber, though, and it's fantastic!
It can be a challenge to figure out which apps actually work with a signer app, though. Here's my wiki article with as complete a list as I have been able to compile:

That's the beautiful part. A signed message does not reveal the private key used to sign it, only that it legitimately belongs to the public key.
