معدن الرصاص أحد أهم الدلائل على أن الأرض موجودة منذ زمن طويل جدا حيث أن معظم المواد المشعة تتحلل في النهاية لتكوين الرصاص ومعظم هذه المعادن لها زمن نصف طويل نسبيا يصل إلى بضع ملايين من السنين.

Two men have been charged over an incident in which the Quran was burnt near the Turkish consulate in west London.
Hamit Coskun, of Derby, was charged on Saturday with a religiously aggravated public order offence after being filmed burning a Quran in Rutland Gardens, Knightsbridge, on Thursday.
The 50-year-old remains in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
Moussa Kadri, 59, of Kensington and Chelsea, was charged on Friday with causing actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon and is due to appear at the same court on 17 March.

It is, obviously, a problem if they do. The most typical case I think would be hairballs or puke, which is indeed a very good argument for why the cat should instead have its own cushioned basket or thing which is more easily washed.
Dogs it depends on the breed for sweat & stuff (oily hair?), but some of them do drool quasi-constantly. In that case, again their own cushion or putting stuff on the sofa to handle that (or just not letting them on, dogs respond to training & rules better than cats).
Personally I think it's just a good case against sofas and other furniture not designed to be washed when it can reasonably become necessary as a result of semi-normal use.
