I have one “chapbook” from the 60s or 70s, which is hard bound. Up until at least the 2000s/2010s, hardbound was preferred whenever possible.
Not sure about the binding on a poet friend’s latest chapbook (released in the last six months), but I wouldn’t be surprised if softbound were more common these days.

Decided to try some brutalist architecture. I don't think I got it quite right, but here is my planets battery. These things are so damn cheap to build that i crammed 83 batteries into this building, giving me 8.3GWh of power if things go poorly, enough to run my current factory for an hour. Going inside the battery area with my current settings yields 10fps (with a 6900XT) so i hope i don't have to do maintenance
