For clinicians, embracing gender means joining a vanguard. You don’t just get to practice medicine but transform it, saving lives and advancing the next great social-justice cause. Together, patient and clinician immerse themselves in a fiction that causes them to lose sight of the real-world fallout of their actions.
At this point, I’m hoping to set up some interviews for the book with people who have firsthand contact with ‘gender-affirming’ care as patients (current or former) or clinicians (same). Feyenoord boekt onder interim-coach Bosschaart knappe overwinning op AC Milan
Feyenoord houdt door een knappe thuiszege (1-0) op AC Milan zicht op plaatsing voor de achtste finales van de Champions League. De Rotterdammers toonden karakter onder interim-trainer Pascal Bosschaart en troefden de Italianen af in de eigen Kuip.
Igor Paixão zorgde al in de derde minuut voor de enige treffer. De return in de tussenronde is komende dinsdag in het San Siro in Milaan.
'Tussenpaus' Bosschaart
Bosschaart was coach van de beloften en kreeg dinsdag plots de leiding bij de Rotterdamse club. Na het ontslag van Brian Priske had de oud-voetballer (44) nauwelijks tijd iets te veranderen. Bosschaart moet punten halen, de neuzen dezelfde kant op krijgen en wil dat doen met aantrekkelijk voetbal.
Op zijn derde dag als 'tussenpaus' kwam Milan op bezoek in De Kuip, voor het eerst sinds het historische Europese seizoen 1969/1970, waarin Feyenoord de Europa Cup I won.
Onder Priske waren er in Europees verband bijzondere oplevingen. Zo werd er gewonnen bij Girona (2-3) en Benfica (1-3), een punt behaald bij Manchester City (3-3) en eind januari ontsnapte de Deense trainer nog aan zijn ontslag met een klinkende zege (3-0) op Bayern in de Kuip.
Tegen AC Milan bleek een goed begin het halve werk voor een heerlijke voetbalavond.
Zoals de voetballer Bosschaart - een verdediger die zelden scoorde - bij zijn Europese debuut voor Feyenoord in 2004 al binnen vijf minuten trefzeker was, deed zijn ploeg dat woensdagavond ook.
Stuiterdoelpunt Paixão
Igor Paixão liet het volgepakte stadion nog net niet ontploffen met de 1-0. De Braziliaan trok vanaf de linkerflank het zestienmetergebied in en verraste met een verraderlijk stuiterend schot Mike Maignan, de Franse doelman van Milan zag er niet goed uit.
Even daarvoor liet Santiago Gimenez zich na zijn winterse transfer al even zien. De Mexicaanse spits, voor een recordbedrag opgepikt door AC Milan, was aangever bij een kans voor de Italianen. Oranje-international Tijjani Reijnders schoot de bal recht in de handen van Feyenoord-doelman Timon Wellenreuther.
De Rossoneri hadden in de stromende regen moeite op het gladde veld. Feyenoord daarentegen toonde een heel ander gezicht dan de afgelopen weken, waarin het kwakkelde. Met haast verbeten spel en lef ging het de strijd aan met de huidige nummer zeven van de Serie A.
Uitblinker Paixão
Paixão bleef opvallen. De Braziliaan speelde met een flinke dosis zelfvertrouwen en oogstte applaus met zijn acties en een haast onnavolgbare aanname na een harde hoge crosspass.
Bij een volgende actie werd hij onder de voet gelopen, maar net als bij een vermeende overtreding op Milan-aanvaller Rafael Leão floot de scheidsrechter niet voor een strafschop.
Feyenoord kreeg kansjes via Anis Hadj Moussa (redding Maignan), Paixão (lat) en Gijs Smal (naast) nog kansjes. Milan moest het hebben van de dreigende acties van Leão en João Félix.
In de tweede helft moest Milan meer risico's nemen om iets aan de achterstand te doen en kreeg daar ook kansen voor. Feyenoord leunde voorzichtig achterover en bleef Paixão voeden. Via zijn actie kreeg Julián Carranza, ingevallen voor de onzichtbare Ayase Ueda, een aardige kans.
Maar hoe meer Paixão aan de bal kwam, hoe harder hij werd aangepakt. Milan-trainer Sérgio Conceição, zelf ook een opgewonden standje langs de lijn, leek zijn spelers duidelijk te hebben gemaakt de grootste Rotterdamse dreiging met harde hand te bedwingen.
Applaus voor Gimenez
Met een schot vanaf de middenlijn probeerde Paixão de voorsprong uit te breiden, maar niet alles wat in zijn hoofd opkwam, bleek mogelijk.
De Kuip schrok op toen aanvoerder Quinten Timber die bleef haken in het gras en bij zijn val geblesseerd raakte. Hij kon nog even door, maar hinkte toch naar de kant. Even later ging ook Milan-spits Gimenez onder applaus naar de kant, het Feyenoord-publiek is zijn doelpunten nog niet vergeten.
Tijdens het slotoffensief van de Italianen hield Feyenoord het hoofd boven water. In San Siro beginnen de Rotterdammers dinsdag met een doelpunt voorsprong aan de return.
