Yeah, have to agree with this post by Daniel Drezner: the near-term future of the US is likely "competitive authoritarianism," where the machinery of parties and elections exists, but the people in power rule as authoritarians and tilt the political and social machinery in their failure. This is a familiar system around the world, but as he says, the US falling will have consequences for democracy around the world. Putin is partying.
