3, 尽管美元与黄金脱钩，但是美国一向维持较好的财政纪律，70年代面临严重的滞胀和资本外流金融脱媒影响，美联储实施严厉的货币紧缩政策，（时任总统卡特，当然代价就是近乎休克的经济衰退和财政赤字，对当年的民众来说代价挺惨重的），只是后来里根“新自由主义”革命、金融深化政策带领美国经济走出休克的困境。从世界横向来看，美元财政纪律是最好的，也找不到比美元更好的货币。
虽然当年的货币休克政策代价很大，但是牺牲一小代人换来了40多年的低通胀和美联储的高信誉，还是得到了后来经济学家（特别是伯南克，那个任内实施多轮量化宽松的美联储主席）的交口称赞。
（可惜2021年4月～2022年3月的重大失误，简直砸了美联储的招牌）

This is where I would type a self-pitying moan if I had the energy. Also, it's harder than you'd think to transcribe moaning noises accurately.
