Romania's conservative populist presidential election front-runner Călin Georgescu has been arrested in a shock move by the state, which has left his supporters bewildered and outrage, as they mobilize to protest what appars brazen ongoing political persecution.
The detention and 'questioning' by police and the prosecutor's office is reportedly in relation to last November's canceled vote that he won, after unsubstantiated and vague claims of 'Russian interference' were claimed. Western media has commonly sought to portray him as a 'far-right, pro-Russian' candidate.

Back in December Romania's Constitutional Court had ruled "to annul the entire electoral process for the election of the President of Romania… to ensure the correctness and legality of the electoral process" - as the controversial and completely unprecedented ruling stated.
The 'problem' was that 62-year old Georgescu, the widely dubbed 'far-right' contender, came out on top in a first round of voting in a 'shock' outcome which left political opponents scrambling and claiming Russian intelligence was behind the massive and sudden rise in his popularity.
After winning the first round on November 24th, he was scheduled to face reformist Elena Lasconi of the liberal Save Romania Union (USR) in the second round. Crucially, Georgescu's huge underdog victory also happened with zero campaign spending, according to his declaration. This was another 'problem' and conundrum for authorities and his political enemies.

I started learning the #dvorak keyboard layout a few days ago. I am fast at typing #qwertz/#qwerty but I want to get faster. What fascinates me is what goes on in my brain. How does it switch from one scheme to another so quickly? Why can I already type in dvorak even without thinking about it? All the keys have their place on the keyboard in my brain since so many years but it's amazingly easy to just switch. Is it stored in separate neuronal structures or why does it work anyway? I expected to type the wrong keys all the time but it's not like that. Our brains are awesome.

For months, staff at Brook Medical Centre have been forced to perform intimate examinations in the freezing cold without heating or hot water.
Health workers say it is just one example of how unpaid bills and staff shortages have impacted patients at three GP practices in Northamptonshire, and accuse the partner-owners of putting people in danger.
GP services run by Dr Jalil Ahmed and Dr Jonathan Allinson have drawn criticism in south Wales recently, and the pair are set to resign from five surgeries there, claiming the contracts are unviable.
A spokesperson for eHarley Street, which provides remote management support to the partners, said they were "committed to delivering the highest standards of care" and described the allegations as "hearsay, fuelled by disgruntled ex-employees". Dr Ahmed and Dr Allinson, both eHarley Street senior executives, hold NHS contracts for 24 GP practices in England and Wales.
They include Brook Medical Centre (Brook), Rushden Medical Centre (Rushden) and County Surgery (County) in Northamptonshire, which together have more than 20,000 patients and receive about £3.5m in funding from the Integrated Care Board (ICB).
The BBC has spoken to eight existing or former health workers at the three surgeries, all of whom asked not to be identified.
Many said there had been shortages of medical equipment such as speculums, emergency adrenaline, ECG patches, forceps and gloves due to "constantly unpaid invoices", which they claimed had resulted in some appointments being cancelled.
