This is very thoughtful. I believe the founders of the US had exactly this duality in mind when forming our government.
The logic flowed something like this:
1. People are not good by nature.
2. Some of those people will not regulate their impulses.
3. This causes the violation of other people’s rights by the unregulated.
4. Some cooperation is required to defend the freedom of everyone else.
5. Government is evil.
6. Ergo, the least amount of government required to protect the rights of the average person is the least possible evil.
Then there is also a need to dissect the difference between freedom from restriction and freedom *of* opportunity. You could have a perfect government with absolute rights, but that doesn’t mean that the past and chance, etc provides you with many opportunities to do much with it.
It certainly takes both to create a prosperous nation.

That is very much based on the definition of freedom. If you only look at it as opposite to regulations it doesn't show, what you are able to do in reality...
Take Somalia for example (the destination people like to send all the ancaps). There is effectively no state and no regulations, but people living there are poor so they can't do much. They are free, but can't do much.
Compare it to Norway, very rich and also quite regulated country. They are not that free, but they can afford almost everything.
Of course there are countries like North Korea where you are not allowed to do anything and you can't afford anything.
So I like to think about practical freedom as a rectangle where the two sides are "what you are allowed to do" and "what you can afford to do."
The bigger the surface of the rectangle the better. But yes, we are all individuals preferring different shapes and sizes of freedom.

Yea tribe isn't bad your right for finding new followers. The most common complaint I see about Nostr is that its a bitcoin cult lol. Love for primal or any of the big clients just to have a remove word from trending or mute Bitcoin or any word in general option. So I can reply to these people that their excuse of not using Nostr is no longer valid. Mute Bitcoin and engage with other people. Enjoy the Freedom.

It's kinda like saying that HTTP isn't good for kids because you can serve porn websites that way.
If nostr were ever to become kid-friendly, it would require heavy filtering to control what events they're allowed to pull.
Global is fine if you're only connected to relays that require all notes to be kid-safe.

As you own your account - your key - this is easy. Just delete it. But I assume you also want to delete all your notes and especially your profile data from the relays.
As Nostr is decentralized this is not easy. And there may also be relays that do not support event deletion.
I'm also not aware of a client supporting mass deletion of notes. And even clients capable of deleting single notes are rare. I currently only know https://nostrudel.ninja. There open your profile, switch to notes, also activate to show replies in that tab. Then you have to open the context menu - the three little dots on the side - on every single note you ever wrote and select delete. 🥴
Although it is technically possible to also delete the notes with your profile information, I do not know of an easy to use client to do that. The simplest way would be to edit your profile and replace all personal data with "anonymous", leave links to avatar and background pictures empty. There will be older notes staying for a while in Nostr containing the previous data, though.
And there are also media you posted. Where these are stored depends on the client and it's setting you used to post these. If you want to delete them, you maybe have to contact the people running these file upload services and ask for deletion. If you try that, do not delete your notes first, they may be useful to convince service operators that the files have been uploaded by you.
To sum it up: It is not easy and there is no guarantee that you reach all relays to delete all your content.
And there should be a tool to do it with a few clicks. And looking at all that on the contrary: One does not own a Nostr account. 😞

I'm not worried about screenshots, most people understand not to do that. Rebroadcasting because they didn't realise it was a private relay that I had given them access to is more of a worry. If that can be stopped that's great. We probably need a way for people to buy virtual relays. I don't want to share pictures of my family publically, but if I could get them onto nostr I would like to in a way only they can see.

I agree. Privacy is quite an issue on NOSTR.
But hey, it's a part of the Internet and I hope we all agree some things aren't meat to be posted on the internet.
You can have 100 stalkers and they can't do shit if you are privacy focused before a person interact with nostr.

As a relay operator my options are limited only to the one relay. I have mechanisms in place to delete spam and prevent spammers from posting ever again. But it is very very easy to spawn a 7 milion new accounts and spam from those. I can see that none of that is solving your issue... Maybe creating an equivalent of a circle and using encryption, you then let only trusted or vetted people into the circle. But is that really possible?

I think a stalker from my porn days found me here. I could be wrong but I don't feel safe. This place needs to not show others that they've blocked their posts. People can see that they ve been blocked and they can retaliate you.
All I can do is "block" myself from SEEING HIM but he can still creep me and tell his friends I'm here.
We need to have a way to post that only my followers can see my posts.
This is crushing my dreams. My art days are ending.

I don’t understand most of what’s on here either, but I’m optimistic about it - and, it’s really early. Building a reliable revenue stream is damned hard everywhere, but I think you are going to do that here if you can hang on a while longer. I agree you should stand up for yourself especially in real life. However its hard to beat a keyboard warrior in a war. They are clearly losers and have all the time in the world to engage in a meaningless battle of insults and creating new accounts to make sure you are seeing their insults lol.
I agree though eventually the tools will be there so each individual user can have an experience they are comfortable with. Freedom is the killer feature of Nostr but if we want to get more users in the future we need certain tools for users for sure.
I think Discovery in Nostr needs work. New people are using primal and only see Bitcoin talk or nostr development trending. Odell kind of lives on the top of trending.
I wonder if Primal would consider same algo for their trending but ones that you can remove words like Bitcoin or nip for the people not interested in it. This way they can discover people of things they are more interested in. I am sure there is better ideas but that was one that ame to mind for new users not interested in certain things to find people to follow easier.
