Everyone is talking about the energy consumption of AI, but no one is talking about water.
Yes... water. The amount of water that AI processing units use is insane.
According a report by The Washington Post, if you ask ChatGPT to write you a 100 word email, it uses 519 millilitres of water...
That is about 1 bottle of water.
ChatGPT alone has over 200 million users...
If you assume each user writes 200 words - That would equal 207 million litres of water PER DAY.
& that is just ChatGPT - it doesn't include Meta, Google, Claude, etc.
This would make sense, as companies like Microsoft have seen their water consumption skyrocket in the past few years.
I will mention that the article I read is not heavily sourced, and there are many questions I still have.
EG: Is there water actually being used, or is it just constantly recycled?

reminds me of when i went to a headphone store in Manhattan that had two very pretty E-Girls working there dressed up to look like Japanese cartoon characters.
it was an entire store ONLY FOR HEADPHONES and as a headphone enthusiast i was very excited ! when i got there they indeed had hundreds of headphones on the wall to try. half of the headphones were pink or other odd colors matching the outfits of the girls.
undeterred i picked the most based looking AudioTechnica ( a Japanese company ) they had and plugged it into my iPod to test the sound quality assuming the dumb bimbos would turn off the music on the ceiling speakers so i could listen ... NOPE !
they never turned the ceiling music off ( which was some kind of retarded Japanese cartoon music ) or even lowered the volume. it was then that i realized to them Headphones were a fashion accessory and not an instrument for reproducing music accurately. the headphones were on display so you could see their COLOR not so you could listen to them !
that's what women are. they have no substance. nothing inside. only their appearance.

I just find keepass to be hassle free.
Many things in bitcoin nostr and freedom tech like Linux take a lot of time and learning..
I don't have the time to troubleshoot vaultwarden unfortunately. At least not this week lol.
I love how simple keepass is and sync the back up file to my locally hosted server which sycs it to my device local or remote. :)
Autofill on websites and apps works great.
I was just hoping to improve or streamline the sync infrastructure with vaultwarden.

If availability is most important, and you trust your self-hosted uptime more than a VPS provider's then yes - you are on the best path for yourself. understood!
I prefer KeePassXC (encrypted, protected with yubikey) a lot for doing super sensitive stuff in Tails, but for my everyday passwords that I need multi-device, away from home, low-friction access to (including browser extensions that talk to a high-availability VPS), self-hosted (on a VPS) Bit/VaultWarden is best for me.

Availability is most important.
If I have downtown I want it to be my fault and not some service I pay money to that I can't control or get them to hurrry up.
Lots of concerns yes encryption too especisllly when you're importing passwords, the file is unencrypted. I'd rather not be doing that on a vps. But this only scratches the surface.
Encryption can be broken but I don't think that's our threat model.
Self hosting is best.
Its OK I think I'm going to stick with KeePassXC anyway lol

I never quite understood this position. I understand wanting to protect against a VPS denying you service (this is here backups matter), but I don't understand not trusting encryption to protect your data from your VPS provider's spying eyes.
