They take out loans against them.
a network that encourages hodling,
and a culture that believes the value of their capital will only ever increase ,
will not sell.
In fact they are highly incentivized to develop a fiat layer to abstract their asset.

We always attach a wallet to the music since thats how V4V music works but most of those sats are probably just setting there in a wallet but thats nothing new in Bitcoin. "Hey didnt I have some of that stuff on a HDD somewhere"
When Alby switched to AlbyHub we had to have everyone using Alby get a Fountain wallet and that was like pulling teeth and some bands we still haven't heard back from. It was hard enough to get them to sign up for one wallet yet do it again. Not to mention all the RSS feeds that needed updated.
TLDR we're still early

Monero makes *different tradeoffs* than bitcoin.
"better" is a subjective assessment.
transactions are larger, so it doesn't scale as well.
but it hides sender, receiver and amount by default.
there is constant in pereptua emission,
but that supply inflation is lower than gokds and guarentees network security in the future.
the protocol is still being updated, which could be an attack vector,
but it responds and adjusts to the changing environment and circumstances it exists in.
so its up to everyone to DYOR and decide whats "better" for themselves.
generally the trade-offs monero makes lends itself to more MoE useage than Bitcoin.

Hmm, I don't think there's any other way to do it for this case that isn't supported by a server responding or updating something when required, since there's no magic way to expose something, detect usage, and expose something new next time without requiring payer interactivity. At least for the xpub case where you want to generate a new address when someone uses the previous one. I was thinking sometime ago about "payment channels" and dh, so you can set up something more or less static that "changes" but with people you previously set up that dh. I mean you could calculate all shared secrets for all your contacts and assign a different xpub to each one. But it seems quite convoluted.

yeah but there are very few local businesses I would be comfortable opening channels with.
not because they are unreliable but because they don't understand the infrastructure.
and can you imagine trying to figure out the LN policy of larger companies and dealing with customer service if they close on you?
I find it hard to believe
at this point anyway
that every business is going to employ a LN node manager.
more likely they just outsource it
if theyre offering LN payment at all.
