The next attack on bitcoin is here which has been dubbed as the “block space wars”
Unlimited OP_RETURN limits makes it easier to inflate transactions. Inflated transactions mean less space in the blocks. Less space in the blocks means higher fees. Higher fees means less people are able to transact.
This could very well be the kiss of death. All that will remain is a store of value and NGU tech. P2P money will fade out into the sunset. Miners will spam to increase fee revenue.
Developers pushing for this have a hidden agenda. Why else would they try to force something facing so much resistance?

its pretty funny, at least we allow you to connect to other relays. this argument makes no sense.
as far as I know the local relay model is the only robust way to implement outbox. you can't just start connecting to random, untrusted relays unless you want to have a bad time.
the immense amount of work in the past 3 years have been basically getting us ready for the switch over, which should make us one of the best outbox implementations that maintains our standards of reliability.
also having features such as advanced local search that doesn't log every one of your queries into a monitoring database so they can see everything you've ever searched.
but yeah, mic drop.

Not fatal to Bitcoin at all, nowhere close to it. Fatal to Core maybe. The key issue is the consideration for user choice, and Core is trying to limit choice for its users, so like you said, conscientious users will just switch. The fact that they are silencing debate and claiming that most bitcoiner voices don't matter to the discussion, and that ethics doesn't matter to the discussion, shows that their heads are not in the right place. I would not use mission critical software from people who are that arrogant. So the Core devs are rightfully getting a lot of scrutiny.
