I was legally blind until I was 16yo. When I was 12, the school I went to gave me an eye exam and told me I needed glasses. I told my mom and she completely dismissed it. I found out because when I went to get my driver’s permit they said I wouldn’t qualify unless I got corrective lenses.
Maybe that’s why I developed such a passion for art. Because pictures were so much more vivid and real to me than the world around me. It also made me pay attention to my kids and actively listen to them, so that if there was anything they needed, I would do something about it.
I finally began to understand that my needs were also important, and learn what those needs actually were, when I got clean and began to get to know myself. I love me, even the moments that I wish I was anyone but me, I love me in those moments. Because I am a tragically beautiful dumpster fire.

True, but the trade off is bigger there, imo. With the email login I still have to login to my email, which very often send me down the same circular shit with verifying another code somewhere else. And 90% of the time they add a captcha too. Not to mention email is often the most vulnerable and attacked service.
Whereas with Nostr keys they don’t have to care if my IP is different, and my Nostr client isn’t storing my keys on their servers to be hacked and compromise 10 million accounts at once, and my Nostr client experience is just faster and simpler than the alternatives I have with every legacy service.

Both Meta and Automattic (WordPress) announced ActivityPub support before Elon purchased Twitter, and the fediverse had already seen multiple big waves of user influx at that point. Not even mentioning the countless papers written about it, or the many different implementations in existence by then. I think there were about 25K active servers/instances in late 2023.
It was Bluesky that grew massively after the Elon purchase.
Either way, the important takeaway is that large-scale adoption can only happen when you already have a healthy network running, and it has enough users on it to be interesting enough for newcomers to stay for longer. Posting exclusively to the networks you want to grow, instead of cross-posting to the networks you want to shrink, is the best way of creating that sustainable base.
