Mexico is in between Argentina and the U.S. in its fiat implosion.

Politie Rome: uitvaart paus grootste veiligheidsoperatie ooit
De uitvaart van paus Franciscus is de grootste veiligheidsoperatie ooit voor Rome. Op de dag voor de begrafenis zijn veel plekken al niet meer begaanbaar.
Boven Rome hangt een constant gezoem van surveilleerde helikopters en aan de rand van het Sint-Pietersplein vallen ook de laaghangende drones van de politie op. Maar dat zijn meteen ook de enige vliegende objecten in de lucht, want boven de Italiaans hoofdstad is in aanloop naar de uitvaart van paus Franciscus een no-flyzone afgekondigd.
De Romeinse autoriteiten zijn op alles voorbereid: "We hebben een instrument op onze wagen dat een infraroodscan maakt van de hele omgeving van de Sint-Pietersbasiliek", zegt een brandweerman die het systeem aanstuurt. "Dat kan gassen en eventuele chemische stoffen analyseren, die gevaarlijk kunnen zijn voor de bevolking."
Detectiepoortjes
Sinds 17.00 uur is het Sint Pietersplein afgesloten voor het publiek. De afgelopen dagen werden pelgrims streng gecontroleerd voor ze het plein opliepen afscheid te nemen van de maandag overleden paus Franciscus.
Bij de toegangshekken moeten de tassen open en op sommige plaatsen staan detectiepoortjes. Zo'n 4000 vrijwillige burgerwachten helpen alles in goede banen te leiden en er zijn duizenden politieagenten en militairen op de been.
Alle verloven zijn ingetrokken. "Vanaf het moment dat we maandagochtend het nieuws hoorden zijn we bezig geweest deze operatie te coördineren", zegt politiecommandant De Sclavis. "We werken intensief samen met de staatspolitie, de carabinieri, het regiobestuur en de burgemeester." De politie is op de hoede voor een terroristische aanslag, maar laat weten dat er geen concrete dreiging is.
Controlekamer
De hele operatie wordt gecoördineerd vanuit een controlekamer op het hoofbureau van politie in hartje Rome. De verschillende diensten werken nauwgezet samen en sturen hun mensen op straat aan. Agenten en militairen houden dag en nacht de enorme wand met videoschermen in de gaten, waar 2000 videosignalen binnenkomen van camera's die door de hele stad hangen.
"Dit zijn drie dagen die we nog nooit hebben meegemaakt. De stad Rome niet, heel Italië niet", zegt de leider van de controlekamer van de politie Tomasso Niglio. "Dit is de grootste veiligheidsoperatie die we ooit op poten hebben gezet."
Want anders dan andere recente pauselijke begrafenissen zal de kist van paus Franciscus na de uitvaartmis in de Sint-Pieter een route van 6 kilometer afleggen dwars door het oude Rome. Langs het Forum Romanum (de ruïnes van het oude Rome) en langs het Colosseum, waar lang geleden de gladiatoren vochten en deze paus altijd de lijdensweg van Christus op Goede Vrijdag herdacht.
Daarvandaan gaat de processie naar de Santa Maria Maggiore, de basiliek waar paus Franciscus begraven wil en zal worden. De hele rijtoer zal ongeveer een uur in beslag nemen. Een groot deel van de oude binnenstad moet dus beveiligd worden, want verwacht wordt dat er mogelijk wel een half miljoen mensen op de been zullen zijn.
8000 vrijwilligers
Burgemeester Roberto Gualtieri belooft dat er 8000 vrijwilligers en ordetroepen paraat staan om de veiligheid te waarborgen. "Zodat iedereen die normaal geen toegang heeft tot de pauselijke begrafenis nu langs de kant van de weg de laatste eer kan bewijzen aan paus Franciscus."
Naast het gewone publiek zijn er 170 internationale delegaties van wereldleiders in de stad, ieder met een eigen veiligheidsteam. De wijk rondom de Amerikaanse residentie, normaal gesproken het woonhuis van de Amerikaanse ambassadeur in Rome, is hermetisch afgesloten. President Trump zal daar vannacht verblijven. Net als vicepresident JD Vance dat afgelopen weekend deed, voordat hij als een van de laatsten de paus de hand schudde.
Verwacht wordt dat het lichaam van paus Franciscus rond 13.00 uur zal aankomen bij de Santa Maria Maggiore. Die staat schuin tegenover de ambassade van Argentinië, het geboorteland van paus Franciscus. Vanaf zondag mag het publiek langs zijn graf lopen.
De extra waakzaamheid zal van kracht blijven tot er een nieuwe paus gekozen is.

**Quem vai enfrentar o extremismo supremo?**
*Artigo de Rodrigo Constantino publicado em 15/04/2025 na Gazeta do Povo*
Não podemos normalizar o absurdo. Um povo submetido constantemente a doses cavalares de surrealismo acaba se anestesiando, até como mecanismo de defesa. Mas se o brasileiro perder a capacidade de indignação, então já era: a ditadura se instaura de vez com mais força ainda. Por isso cada um de nós que ainda não perdeu o juízo (e a coragem) tem obrigação moral de se manifestar, de gritar, de apontar para os absurdos do Supremo. Se mais e mais gente fizer isso, teremos alguma chance de reverter o quadro.
É o que tem feito a Gazeta do Povo, jornal sério que vem denunciando a situação do nosso Poder Judiciário. Em seu editorial de hoje, a Gazeta resume bem: “Ministros do STF trabalham ativamente para torpedear um projeto de lei que tramita no Poder Legislativo. O nome disso é atuação político-partidária”. E tal atuação é vedada pela própria Constituição, sob pena de impeachment. O jornal também se mostra chocado com a naturalidade com a qual o restante da imprensa trata tal postura:
Difícil dizer o que surpreende mais: que a cúpula do Poder Judiciário tenha assumido de vez um caráter político, totalmente oposto ao seu papel e sem o mandato popular para fazer nada semelhante; ou que jornalistas e formadores de opinião tenham naturalizado essa atuação política do STF a ponto de narrar tais interferências como algo corriqueiro, sem nem sequer explicar que se trata de uma irregularidade proibida por lei, e até mesmo de aceitar o papel de “garoto de recados” de ministros interessados em fazer tais pressões políticas.
O presidente do Supremo Tribunal Federal, Luís Roberto Barroso, voltou a confessar o crime, ao mandar vídeo para evento de “lideranças” brasileiras nos Estados Unidos se gabando de ter “enfrentado o populismo autoritário”. É o mesmo ministro que disse, num convescote de comunistas da UNE: “Nós derrotamos o bolsonarismo”. É isto papel de ministro supremo? Moraes tenta intimidar parlamentares para impedir o projeto da anistia. É isto sua função? A Gazeta conclui: “Um membro do Supremo que parta para a articulação política direta é uma disfuncionalidade gravíssima, que não há como aceitar sob pena de colaborar com o desmonte da democracia brasileira”.
Jason Miller, ex-assessor de Donald Trump, está certo ao afirmar que Alexandre de Moraes representa a maior ameaça à democracia no hemisfério ocidental. A ditadura de toga avança por conta da covardia e cumplicidade de boa parte da elite intelectual, principalmente dos jornalistas. O advogado Andre Marsiglia se destaca em meio a juristas acovardados e diz: “Se o STF ignora os limites que a Constituição impôs a ele próprio, torna-se ele próprio inconstitucional. E se isso ocorre, é dever dos demais Poderes, em nome da própria Constituição, contê-lo. Com lei. Com política. Com coragem. Porque quando o guardião se rebela contra a norma que o criou, não há mais Estado democrático de Direito”.
J.R. Guzzo, jornalista que se destaca na categoria por manter a independência e a coragem, usou o caso esdrúxulo da cabeleireira Débora para constatar: “O sistema de Justiça do Brasil foi para o saco, por culpa direta do STF e de quem lhe presta vassalagem. Sustentam que dar anistia aos réus do 8 de janeiro seria a mesma coisa que perdoar um bando de indivíduos que entrasse em sua casa para depredar a mobília etc. etc. etc. Mas acham que é perfeito anistiar os assassinos, assaltantes de banco, sequestradores e outros autores de crimes hediondos cometidos durante a ditadura militar. É a esse ponto a que chegou a degeneração do Poder Judiciário no Brasil do STF”.
Enquanto isso, a pauta pela anistia segue conquistando mais deputados, apesar da intimidação suprema, e o jornal O Globo escreve editorial chamando a anistia de “vexatória”, pregando em seu lugar, como prioridade, a censura das redes sociais. Dezenas de milhares de pessoas nas ruas, oito governadores importantes, inúmeros senadores e deputados e cerca de 300 votos na Câmara dos Deputados, mas o jornal carioca acha que essa pauta é bobagem, enquanto a “regulação” das redes sociais deveria ser prioridade! E quem exatamente prega essa agenda no povo? Ninguém!
Leandro Ruschel resumiu: “VEXATÓRIA é a postura do Globo, agindo como uma Pravda tropical, dedicada a promover a descondenação de Lula e sua ascensão à presidência. Há anos, o grupo atua como um dos principais instrumentos de propaganda do regime, buscando legitimar censura, repressão política e condenações injustas, com o evidente propósito de consolidar um autêntico regime de exceção. Por que O Globo abraçou esse papel?” Abaixo da pergunta retórica, uma notícia de que, sob Lula, a Globo recebeu mais da Secom em um ano do que em quatro anos de Bolsonaro!
Ruschel acrescentou: “O editorial do Globo, além de chamar a pauta da Anistia de ‘vexatória’, ainda cobra pela aprovação do PL da Censura das redes sociais. Por sua vez, a Globo News, também conhecida como Lula News, passou o dia em campanha contra a Anistia. A Globo é uma das principais responsáveis pela destruição do Brasil”. Difícil discordar. A implosão de nosso Estado Democrático de Direito jamais teria sido possível sem a participação ativa da velha imprensa...
