午后的阳光透过咖啡馆的落地窗，洒在木桌上，映出一圈圈温暖的光晕。于铭 坐在角落，手里拿着一本翻到一半的小说，眼神却不时飘向窗外。他是个三十出头的插画师，性格直爽，喜欢单刀直入的沟通方式，但在感情上，他总是觉得自己像个“异类”。
对面坐着他的老友徐胜，一个风趣幽默的广告策划人，正滔滔不绝地分享最近的相亲经历。“你说，我这条件也不差吧？年薪百万，长得也算过得去，可昨晚那姑娘，聊了十分钟就跑了，说我‘太直’，没情趣！”徐胜 无奈地摊手，端起咖啡猛灌一口。
于铭 笑了笑，放下书，“她嫌你直，你不也嫌她矫情？你们这是互相筛选，挺好的。”
徐胜 挑眉，“筛选？这话怎么说？”
于铭 没急着回答，目光扫过咖啡馆。旁边桌一对情侣正低声争执，女的抱怨男的“不够浪漫”，男的则一脸无辜地说“我就是实话实说”。林然收回视线，慢悠悠地开口：“你知道活性炭、石墨和钻石的区别吗？”
徐胜 一脸懵，“这跟相亲有啥关系？”
“别急，听我说。”于铭笑了笑，语气轻松，“活性炭能吸附杂质，也能烧火取暖；石墨能润滑锁芯，也能当铅笔芯；钻石能切割硬物，也能当装饰品。它们都是碳，形态不同，用途不同。你说哪个更好？”
徐胜 挠挠头，“看用在哪儿吧。吸附东西用活性炭，写字用石墨，求婚用钻石。”
“对！”于铭一拍桌子，引来旁边几桌好奇的目光。他压低声音，继续道，“人和人也是一样。有人觉得‘直’是缺点，情商低，没情绪价值；可对另一些人来说，‘直’就是高效沟通，省时省力。你觉得那姑娘矫情，她觉得你没情调，谁对谁错？都不重要。重要的是，你们不适合。”
徐胜 若有所思，端着咖啡杯的手停在半空。于铭接着说：“我前阵子也遇到个女孩，漂亮得像画里走出来的那种。她爱买奢侈品，化妆品一个月花好几万，远超她自己的收入。我呢，一个画画的，赚得刚够生活，根本养不起她那种生活方式的女孩。我要是硬追，结婚了估计得把自己逼疯。后来想想，漂亮不是问题，适合才重要。”
咖啡馆的门铃响了，一个穿白色毛衣的女孩走了进来，手里拿着一本设计杂志。她在于铭旁边的桌子坐下，点了一杯拿铁，低头翻看杂志。于铭瞥了她一眼，继续对徐胜说：“你看，找对象不是应试考试，没标准答案。那些按‘受欢迎程度’给别人打分的人，其实挺傻的。人与人之间，只有不同，没有高低贵贱优劣。就像你，喜欢豪车西装，追求高效率；我呢，喜欢画画喝咖啡，享受慢生活。咱俩要是互相要求对方变成自己那样，岂不是累死？”
徐胜 哈哈大笑，“你这话有道理！可我还是觉得，那种高富帅的生活，谁不想要？谁不想娶个美女？”
于铭 耸耸肩，语气依旧轻松：“想归想，但得看代价。你若是女人，高富帅的财富和帅气，背后是多少时间精力堆出来的？你有那本事帮他维持财富，或者陪他熬夜应酬吗？你若是男人，美女的妆容和衣品，哪样不要真金白银砸？不劳而获的幻想，每个人的基因里都有，但理智得提醒你：自相矛盾的事，别抱希望。”
徐胜愣了愣，喃喃道：“自相矛盾？”
“对。”于铭指了指自己的脑袋，“比如你想找个身高一米七以下、腿长一米八以上的女孩，逻辑上就不可能。因为任何人的身高都比腿长，任何人都不可能既低于1米7，又高于1米8。这是空集啊！找对象也一样，你不能找到一个对象，既24小时工作赚钱，又能随叫随到，鞍前马后给你提供情绪价值。所以，别追那些好看但让你压力山大的。最好的配偶，是能给你帮助，相处让你舒服、成本不让你觉得心疼的那个人。”
这时，旁桌的白毛衣女孩突然抬头，笑着插话：“不好意思，听到你们聊天，忍不住想说一句。你这话说得太对了！我前男友是个富二代，帅得不行，可我每天得陪他出席各种场合，累得像在打工。后来分手才发现，我其实就想找个能一起吃路边摊、聊设计的人。”
他们都愣住了，随即相视一笑。于铭看向女孩，点头道：“就是这个理。适合的，才是最好的。”
女孩笑得爽朗，露出两颗小虎牙。她指了指自己的麻辣烫，“我叫小米，学音乐的。你们聊的这套理论，我得点赞！适合的，才是最好的。”
女孩笑了笑，掏出名片交给二人，说要交个朋友。
阳光依旧洒在桌上，徐胜 放下咖啡杯，感慨道：“行吧，老于，你这理论我服了。回去我再想想，到底想要啥样的生活。”
于铭 没再说话，拿起书继续看，嘴角却微微上扬。他知道，道理谁都懂，但真正明白的人，会在一次次“筛选”中，找到那个最适合的答案。
时光荏苒，十几天后的一个午后，阳光依然透过落地窗，洒在木桌上。于铭依然坐在角落，不同的是，两个人变成了四个人。于铭和小米，徐胜和小米的闺蜜小辣椒，组成两对情侣。
